KeNN Debuts With Emotion-Driven EP 'From Miseducation'

KeNN has officially released his debut EP ‘From Miseducation’, marking a significant first step for the singer-songwriter with a project that blends personal storytelling and genre-fluid R&B.

The eight-track release, available from April 8 at midnight local time, is performed in both English and Japanese and positions KeNN as an artist focused on emotional clarity and sonic versatility.

Framed as both an introduction and a creative statement, From Miseducation brings together two new tracks alongside a newly reworked acoustic version.

Across the project, KeNN leans into a stripped-back, instinctive approach, allowing his influences and lived experiences to shape the tone. The result is a body of work that balances raw vulnerability with a deliberate, polished sound.

At the core of the EP is its reinterpretation of “miseducation” as a concept. Rather than viewing it as a deficit, KeNN reframes it as a product of unconventional upbringing and cultural immersion.

Raised in a musically rich environment by DJ parents, he draws a direct connection to The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, an album that informed his early exposure to music. This reference grounds the project within a lineage of emotionally honest, genre-crossing work.

The lead track “Memai” anchors the release with an upbeat and atmospheric sound that captures the disorienting intensity of love. Its fast-moving arrangement mirrors a sense of emotional instability, shifting constantly while maintaining a bright, accessible surface.

The track was arranged by Young_Vibe and MON/KU, both of whom play a broader role across the EP’s production. Visually, the song is supported by a music video directed by Takuya Setomitsu, which adopts a soft, dreamlike aesthetic where the boundaries between reality and illusion become indistinct.

In contrast, the latter portion of the EP moves toward a more restrained sound. “sad dance” presents a fully Japanese ballad that emphasizes subtlety and emotional weight through minimal instrumentation.

Meanwhile, “One in α million (Acoustic)” foregrounds KeNN’s strengths as a live performer, highlighting the singer-songwriter sensibility he has developed through stage experience.

With From Miseducation, KeNN does more than revisit his influences. The EP expands on them, offering a clearer view of his artistic direction and signaling how his sound translates across both recorded and live formats.
