Streaming giant Netflix will bring us next week a medical true-crime thriller from Denmark; The Nurse is a four-episode limited series that chronicles the events that took place at a hospital in Denmark in 2015 after several people wound up dead after the arrival of a new member of the nursing staff. Moreover, the series, based on a true-crime book by Danish author Kristian Corfixen will illustrate how these events took place and shocked the Danish community back then.
These productions are thrilling and scary as they delve deep into psychological mechanisms of dispossession, a mental process that individuals experience when they lose something valuable, like the trust we put in the medical staff.
The appeal of these and similar productions is that they give us a look into criminal minds. Created by Kasper Barfoed and starring Fanny Louise Bernth, Peter Zandersen, and Josephine Park, this is one binge-worthy production that you won’t want to miss for a Friday night by yourself or your significant other.
The Nurse Premise
Fanny Bernth (Dicte, Ride Upon The Storm, The New Nurses) will play Pernille Kurzman, a nurse that begins to work at Nykøbing Falster Hospital, where she meets another nurse named Christina Aistrup Hansen, played by Josephine Park (The Investigation, Baby Fever). Pernille becomes accustomed to the hospital over time and learns that Christina is not who she seems to be. She starts a mission to reveal the truth because she can no longer ignore the issue.
The mystery starts when people start to get sick inexplicably, and it is uncertain what is causing their condition to get worse. Pernille begins to look into the potential causes of these illnesses and the perpetrators.
What To Expect From The Nurse?
The Nurse is a psychological true crime Scandivinian thriller based upon a book penned by Kristian Corfixen titled “The Nurse: The True Story Behind One Of Scandinavia’s Most Notorious Criminal Trials” that will put on the small screen the criminal events that took place a Danish healthcare facility and the conviction of the Nurse who perpetrated such crimes.
If you’ve seen Netflix’s feature film “The Good Nurse” starring Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne or saw the documentary “Capturing the Killer Nurse” (also available on Netflix) gives you the feel of what’s ahead.
Killer nurse cases often follow the same pattern, some innocent patients end up dead, an investigation ensues, and the cops sniff out the clues that the killer usually leaves along the way:
It’s usually the empty medicine vials, the inconsistent pharmacy logs, several conflicting stories, weak alibis, and the like. Will The Nurse be such the case? Or do Scandinavian aesthetics and filmmaking bring us a different perspective? When the episodes drop, we’ll review and recap them for you!
