KADOKAWA CORPORATION will bring its OnSITE Portfolio Review workshop to Manga Barcelona 2026, giving aspiring manga creators an opportunity to receive direct feedback from Japanese publishing professionals. The event will take place from December 5 to December 8, 2026, at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain, as part of the company’s efforts to discover and support manga talent beyond Japan.
Through the workshop, participants can present their original manga projects to editors from KADOKAWA’s World Manga Editorial Team, ask questions about the Japanese manga industry, and receive guidance on their work. Reviews will be available in Spanish, English, and Japanese, making the initiative accessible to creators from different linguistic backgrounds.
Announced in a KADOKAWA press release, the workshop forms part of KADOKAWA WORLD MANGA ATELIER, a broader initiative designed to help international artists develop their manga careers. The company will also hold an editorial talk session on the final day, offering insight into manga creation and its international contest.
MANGA PORTFOLIO REVIEWS WILL RUN ACROSS FOUR DAYS
The KADOKAWA OnSITE Portfolio Review will take place in the Kotori Room at Manga Barcelona 2026, with sessions scheduled between 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. CEST. Interested creators must register in advance through the official application portal.
The registration period runs from October 5 to November 20, 2026, with places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications may close earlier if all available slots are filled. Selected participants will receive separate instructions for entering the venue, and a general admission ticket to Manga Barcelona is not required to attend the portfolio review.
KADOKAWA’s official OnSITE guidelines state that applicants must submit original manga work rather than text-only projects, illustration-only portfolios, or fan art. Works containing AI-generated materials are also prohibited. Both amateur and professional creators of any nationality can apply.

Beyond individual portfolio reviews, KADOKAWA will host a talk session on December 8 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. CEST in Manga Barcelona’s Manga Academy Room. Noboru Segawa, chief editor of KADOKAWA’s World Manga Editorial Team, will discuss the KADOKAWA WORLD MANGA CONTEST and explain important aspects of manga creation from an editor’s perspective.
The session will give attendees an opportunity to learn how professional editors evaluate manga and what creators should consider when developing their work. KADOKAWA’s World Manga Contest website provides further information about its international competition, which offers creators a potential route toward publication.
The Barcelona event follows earlier OnSITE Portfolio Review activities at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles and Comic Paradise in Indonesia. KADOKAWA also planned a session in Taiwan for November, extending its efforts to connect international creators with Japanese manga editors.
Through these events, the company is building opportunities for artists to receive professional feedback without having to travel to Japan to approach publishers directly.
