Jun Wakatsuki’s Promise Me the Spotlight is officially getting a TV anime adaptation. Bandai Namco Filmworks announced the project on July 8, 2026, and revealed the first teaser visual, bringing the popular idol romance manga to the small screen.

While the company has not yet revealed the cast, staff, or release date, the announcement quickly caught fans’ attention and sparked excitement across social media. The adaptation marks a major milestone for the manga, which has steadily built a loyal following among idol romance readers over the past few years.

A Chance Encounter Changes Everything

Promise Me the Spotlight follows high school student Koichi Okuta, a devoted fan of the idol group Melty Strawberry. Since losing his mother, Koichi has supported the group’s least popular member, Mizuki Natsuno, believing in her even as rumors suggest she may quit the idol industry because of her lack of fan support.

Koichi’s life changes unexpectedly when his father remarries, and he learns that Mizuki is now his stepsister. Earlier, during a fan event, Koichi jokingly promised to marry Mizuki if he could help her become the group’s center. Now living under the same roof, that promise suddenly feels much more real. While the series has a lighthearted romantic setup, it also explores Mizuki’s struggles as an idol trying to keep her dream alive despite constant setbacks.

From Magazine Edge to a Successful Digital Manga

Jun Wakatsuki launched Promise Me the Spotlight in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine Edge in November 2022. After the magazine ended publication in October 2023, the manga continued on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app in February 2024. As of September 2025, the series has been collected into five volumes.

The move to a digital platform helped the manga reach a wider audience and continue its run, even after its original magazine closed. The series has also expanded internationally. Earlier this year, Kodansha’s K MANGA service added an official English release, making the idol romance manga more accessible to readers outside Japan.

What Happens Next?

Bandai Namco Filmworks has only revealed a teaser visual so far, with no details yet about the cast, production staff, or release date. Fans can expect more announcements in the coming months, including the voice cast, key staff members, and the anime’s premiere window. With the adaptation now officially confirmed, Promise Me the Spotlight is one of the latest romance manga to prepare to make the jump to television.
