The second installment of the successful Jumanji franchise, which was released back in 2017, was a sequel to the first Jumanji movie released all the way back in 1995. The film was a major hit at the box office, gaining the attention of many for its slapstick humor and great chemistry between the leading cast, especially actor and comedian Kevin Hart and actor Dwayne ‘The Rock Johnson. Other actors in the leading cast include singer and actor Nick Jonas, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Bobby Cannavale.
While there was confusion around whether the movie was a reboot of the first Jumanji film or if it was a sequel to it, the trailers and the plot made it very clear that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is the second installment to the film, with the makers promising to expand the franchise even more. The premise of the movie revolves around a bunch of teenagers who we find cleaning the basement of their school when they accidentally come across an ancient-looking video game.
But what is shocking is that upon touching the game, the group finds themselves sucked into the Jumanji world in the physical form of some adult-looking characters of the game. To get out of the game, the bunch has to pass the levels of the game along with another individual who has been trapped inside the game for over twenty years. The movie is set twenty-one years after the actual movie. The first movie definitely managed to set a solid foundation for all of Jumanji’s future ventures.
The movie has a strong storyline along with actors who know exactly how to deliver the punchlines, making the movie a hilarious but light watch. Fans of the movie curious to find out the movie shooting locations can continue reading till the end.
Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle’s Filming Locations
The movie is supposed to be set deep in the dense jungles of Africa, but the actual shooting to get this effect was done in Hawaii and Atlanta.
Hawaii
Whatever vast space of greenery you see in the movie, which is basically in every other scene, all of it has been filmed mostly in Hawaii, specifically the beautiful city of Honolulu, which happens to be a famous tourist hotspot. An important and famous spot where the movie was filmed is the Kualoa ranch and mountains. This location is a reserve and a cattle ranch which has previously been used in famous films like Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, and Kong: Skull Island.
The small town of Hilo was also featured in the film, and it could be spotted during the waterfall scene in the movie. Another beautiful landscape that the makers made sure to include in the film was the shot of the Jaguar Temple, where the game characters were told their weaknesses and strengths, which would help them in passing the different game levels. This is also the scene where the motorbike chase sequence was shot.
The way to this Jaguar Temple is through Russel Van Pelt’s Camp, which was not outright visible in the film. A few small scenes were also shot in the Heeia Kea Jungle.
Atlanta, USA
While the makers did their best to shoot as many as they could in the real-life setting, obviously, some of the laborious scenes had to be shot in a studio with a green screen. A studio fit for the movie was created from scratch at the Atlanta Metro Studios located in Union City. The scenes of the Brantford High School, which we saw at the start of the film, were shot at the Westlake High School, also located in Atlanta.
The bazaar scene in the film was also shot in a studio curated specifically in the southern railway building in Atlanta, as well. Alex Vreeke, the video game-loving nerd’s house, which is also featured in the film, was located somewhere near the Ansley Park Sherwood Forest Neighbourhood are located in Atlanta. Though not a lot is known about the exact scenes, the film definitely has some shots that were taken in Santa Clarita, California, USA.
