The NFL player Jonathan Owens, along with his wife, Simone Biles, the recently celebrated gymnast of all time, appeared on the latest episode of “The Pivot” podcast. During their appearance on the podcast, the couple shared how they met and came into contact for the first time.
Owens was confronted with the question, “How in the hell did you pull Simone Biles?” by the host, Channing Crowder, to which he responded that he didn’t know who she was back in 2020. Back when they met in 2020, he wasn’t aware of the popularity of her profession after they got a match on a dating app called “Raya.” Unlike most people, Jonathan Owens got to know his wife first as a person and then as a gymnast.
According to Jonathan Owens, “Men are the catch.”
On The Pivot Podcast, Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles were having an interview about the timeline of their relationship. Owens was asked whether he believes that he is the “catch?” in his relationship with Biles, to which Owen responded, “I always say that men are the catch.” He also mentioned that he was fighting against his natural fear of making commitments at that point in his life.
He felt that it was kind of early for him, but later, he added that when you expect the least, that is when it happens. They hung out, and the worry hit it off instantly. Owens also added, “We laughed the whole time. “After Owens’s statement, he had to face criticism, but he responded to this criticism by posting a picture on his Instagram of his wife and him on their wedding day with the caption, “Unbothered, just know we locked in over here,” and Biles, like a supportive wife, commented on it “for life.”.
According to Owens, he felt drawn towards Biles after her response, who she considers her biggest competition to be herself. Owens understood her statement and reputation when, one Sunday, they were at a popular cookie spot, and all the moms and their kids were awed by seeing her.
How did Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles meet?
The first time the couple met each other was on a dating app called Raya. They didn’t meet each other as celebrities first but as normal people. While sharing their first get-to-know moment, the NFL player said that when he saw Biles’ profile, he said, “Let’s see who this is?” as the player had never paid attention to gymnastics, which triggered a curiosity in him.
Soon, it was revealed to him that Biles’ 26 was more notable than he had thought of her. Later, he went through her Instagram profile to learn more about her. There, he noticed she had a bunch of followers, which made him think, “Okay, she’s got to be good,” as Owen said on the podcast.
Owen mentioned that when he saw her notoriety, he understood the reason why he didn’t know her. Owens said, “When she won the Olympics, I was in college, and we didn’t have NBC, we didn’t have Olympics channels, and they were in training camp late July or early August.” While adding more to it, he said, “I never would’ve had a moment where I would’ve watched her.”
When asked about how they connected, Owens said Biles was the first one to text, and then they started texting back and forth before they finally met in person after three days. Due to COVID-19, they couldn’t do much, and they also didn’t have the opportunity to meet much as everything was shut down.
During that time, when he was playing for the Houston Texans, Biles had put in an effort here to meet him as the player said, “She came down to Houston. She lived in the suburbs, so she had to drive for about 45 minutes. Then the rest is history.”
After dating each other for almost three years, the pair tied the knot on April 22, 2023, at the Harris County Courthouse in Houston. The couple also hosted a second wedding party after a few weeks in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
