During last week’s Footwear News Achievement Awards, Jessica Simpson talked to E! about how her sobriety has given her a fresh perspective on her youth.
She said that giving up alcohol had been the best choice for her, giving her a fresh perspective. The Icon Award winner stressed the value of paying attention in talks, taking in other people’s perspectives, and fully living life—a process she felt had previously been obstructed. Simpson said she adores the sensation of being totally present.
She humorously mentioned that maintaining sobriety can also help with weight management, especially during the holidays.
Jessica Simpson celebrated turning six years sober
Jessica Simpson celebrated turning six years sober in early November by resharing a 2021 post that included a vintage image from 2017, the day she made the decision to start her sobriety journey, and remarking on how “unrecognizable” she felt at the time.
In her initial post, the mother of three discussed the stigma attached to alcoholism and being called an alcoholic, having been sober for four years.
The real difficulty, she underlined, was embracing brokenness, pain, failure, and self-sabotage. Simpson admitted that her drinking was a symptom of deeper personal struggles rather than the cause of the problem. She discovered her own power and learned to love and respect herself along the way.
In addition to reaching her sobriety milestone, the 43-year-old has been enjoying her body transformation since she lost 100 pounds after Birdie Mae, her third child, was born in 2019.
In order to feel like she’s in her 20s again, Simpson told E! that embracing her health is a significant step on her path to self-acceptance.
Jessica Simpson encouraged self-love and compassion
Jessica Simpson continued her speech by highlighting the need to avoid extreme self-criticism and asserting that being too harsh on oneself can lead to failures in a variety of endeavors.
She promoted self-compassion and self-love, emphasizing the slow process necessary to achieve true confidence. According to Simpson, the confidence that comes from accomplishing a goal makes life happy.
In 2021, Simpson revealed that she had stopped using her scale and compared it to an Ouija board when she appeared on “Today” with Hoda Kotb. She placed more value on feeling good about herself and being at ease in her own skin than she did on hitting a particular weight.
In response to criticism and rumors that were making the rounds on social media earlier this year—speculation in particular regarding the use of Ozempic—Simpson denied these assertions.
She refuted the rumors in a July interview with Bustle, crediting her own willpower for her change and reaffirming her dedication to leading a healthy lifestyle.
