At UFC 299, Jack Della Maddalena showcased remarkable grit, resilience, and patience, orchestrating a stunning last-minute comeback against Gilbert Burns. His victory has awed fellow fighters, as ‘Durinho’ sought redemption following a previous loss to Belal Muhammad.
Burns implemented a grappling-focused strategy to counter his opponent’s striking abilities. His plan seemed to be working smoothly until Maddalena executed a strategic roll from a grounded position, delivering a devastating knee strike to ‘Durinho’s’ chin, resulting in his opponent collapsing to the mat.
The 27-year-old capitalized with relentless ground and pound, prompting the referee to halt the fight in the third round.
MMA fighters were left astounded by Maddalena’s late comeback victory, leading to an outpouring of praise on social media platforms.
Jack Della Maddalena Calls Out Shavkat Rakhmonov
Jack Della Maddalena shows no intention of slowing down following his victory over welterweight stalwart Gilbert Burns. Eager to ascend in the 170-pound division, the Perth native has targeted the No.3-ranked contender, Shavkat Rakhmonov.
In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Maddalena issued a direct challenge to the Kazakh fighter.
“There are some scary people in this division but I’m the f*****g scariest Shavkat Rakhmonov, I think you and me could make a hell of a title eliminator. One of the best in the business, let’s go.”
Rakhmonov boasts an undefeated MMA record and most notably secured a victory over Stephen Thompson at UFC 296 with a second-round submission. Widely regarded as one of the premier talents in the division, he presents a formidable challenge for any opponent.
