Two young ravens have joined the permanent population at the Tower.
Edgar, one of them, is named after the horror writer Edgar Allan Poe, while his sister is yet unnamed. It will be decided by popular voting, and Ravenmaster Chris is anxiously awaiting the outcome. Brigadier Andrew Jackson, Tower Governor, and Chief Yeoman Warder Pete McGowran are also in the spotlight. They are practicing a new ceremony to commemorate the Tower reopening its doors to tourists following the covid closure.

On the Wharf, a big 62-gun salute is planned, but with his supervisor, the Chief Yeoman Warder, gone, the new Yeoman Gaoler, Rob Fuller, takes command for the first time. Rob is under pressure to do it right with three 4,000lb cannons and thousands of guests.
Constable Nicholas is in charge of the chamber where Guy Fawkes was interrogated, while Raven Master Chris must introduce a new bird to the Tower’s cage as Yeoman Warder Matt Pryme is getting ready to marry his girlfriend, Jo, in the Tower of London. During the opening episode, The Tower was preparing for its most ambitious installment ever in September 2021. In honor of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, the Tower of London will introduce a brand-new natural wildlife habitat dubbed Superbloom into the ancient moat.
Superbloom is a massive project that would need to spread 10,000 tonnes of soil inside the moat to plant 20 million seeds in time for the Platinum Jubilee weekend in June 2022. Tracy describes how Henry put Cromwell in the Tower to await death after years of devoted devotion because he blamed Cromwell for his unfortunate marriage to Anne of Cleves.
In a cruel turn of events, Cromwell found himself imploring the King for forgiveness in the same cell where he had condemned so many others to death. Beefeater is busy at work. This priceless ceremonial artifact, embellished with thousands of pounds of silver, is used by Her Majesty the Queen to kick off the Platinum Jubilee festivities for the entire nation.
Thus the Tower must keep it safe and secure until it arrives at Buckingham Palace. Tracy Borman, the principal curator of Historic Royal Palaces, traces Thomas Cromwell’s ascent and decline as Henry VIII’s most aspirational prime minister.
