After the neo-noir thriller, Cursed, the project director named ‘Vaughn Styne’ came up with a strongly built psychological and logical thriller, ‘Inheritance.’ The movie had expensive settings and a story full of holes. Thus, it ended up getting negative reviews from the critics.
Written by the debuting writer Matthew Kennedy, the Inheritance movie got released on 22 May 2020. It starred Lily Collins, Chace Crawford, Simon Pegg, Patrick Warburton, and Connie Nielsen.
Lily Collins, the British and American actress, is an appealing performer. But, her choice of role did not match her skills. The character played by Lily Collins, Lauren Monroe, was supposed to be threatening and calculating. However, she appeared lost, which depicted inconsistency in writing the character.
Chace Crawford and Connie Nielsen, the other two strong actors, did not get enough on-screen time. One more character that got poorly written was Morgan Warner/Carson, played by Simon Pegg. The 111 minutes-long movie collected only $303,408 at the box office.

Inheritance Movie Plot
Archer Monroe (played by Patrick Warburton), a powerful and wealthy man from New York, died in 2008. His estate gets divided among his wife, a son, and a daughter. However, after reading his will, they realize that he left only $1 million for his daughter, Lauren, the righteous District Attorney, and $20 million for his son, William, the corrupt Congressman.
Monroe’s family Attorney takes Lauren aside and hands her over a pen drive, a key, and an envelope left by her father. He also shows her a video that depicts her father’s regret and discomfort. However, she must sustain the secrecy till her death.
Lauren goes to the underground bunker according to the directions mentioned in the video, where she encounters a prisoner named Morgan Warner (played by Simon Pegg), who claims to have been under custody for three decades!
The poor prisoner reveals how he became a victim of injustice. He was Archer’s business partner. On a cursed night, drunk Archer killed a pedestrian with his car, and Morgan witnessed it. Archer insisted he helped bury the pedestrian’s dead body and later blamed him for the crime. Thus, Morgan says that he got imprisoned for Archer’s deeds.
Morgan takes Lauren to the place where the pedestrian’s dead body is buried. Meanwhile, he also informs her about Archer’s mistress, who gave birth to Archer’s son. Archer also used his wealth to get his children elected to public office, according to Carson.
Shocked, Lauren feels pity for Morgan. After going through a dilemma, she asks Harold to make arrangements to send him offshore, but she still doubts. Lily Collins (who plays Lauren) should have portrayed fear or aggression, which she did not.
Inheritance Movie Ending Explained
Lauren secretly took his fingerprints as a prosecutor and sent them for investigation. However, she frees him, giving him a hefty amount without waiting for the reports. Soon, Lauren realizes that she made a mistake by freeing Morgan. His fingerprints match, and the reports get delivered to her house.
Lauren’s mother, Catherine, sees the reports, especially Mogan’s photo, and identifies Morgan as an evil man named Carson. After trying to get updates regarding Morgan’s further journey, Lauren finds that he did not go anywhere, and Harold got killed.
Lauren does not find her mother at home. According to Catherine’s instructions, Lauren goes to a bunker, where she finds Catherine under Carson’s captivity. Soon, Carson subdues Lauren and unfolds the truth. He is her biological father, as he had drugged and molested Catherine thirty years ago, and Lauren is the product of that crime.
Archer got furious after learning it. Thus, he took Carson somewhere through his car to kill him. However, they hit the pedestrian. Carson poisoned Archer with the poison Archer was about to give him. Coming to the current situation, angry Lauren gets indulged in a one-to-one fight with Carson.
Meanwhile, Catherine picks up Carson’s gun and shoots him dead. The scared daughter and mother empty the gasoline container, get out of the bunker, and put it on fire. It is how all evidence related to Carson gets destroyed, and he finally disappears forever.
Like many other movies, this movie keeps some questions unanswered. For instance, why did Morgan not reveal the truth and try to escape the bunker in three decades like he did when he met Lauren? Why did Lauren not think of it before freeing him? Thus, it is only a casual mystery, and the viewers are not recommended to look for minute details.
