Max’s gripping financial drama, Industry, returns for its third season on August 11. It has been two years since the intense events of Season 2. The first season introduces four ambitious young graduates—Harper Stern (Myha’la), Robert Spearing (Harry Lawtey), Yasmin Kara-Hanani (Marisa Abela), and Gus Sackey (David Jonsson)—competing for permanent roles at the fictional investment bank, Pierpoint & Co. By the end of Season 1, only Gus is left out.
In Season 2, we see the Pierpoint team back in action after the COVID-19 pandemic. Harper avoids returning to the office and works remotely from a fancy hotel, where she befriends hedge fund manager Jesse Bloom (Jay Duplass). He becomes her top client, and their relationship takes center stage.
Yasmin, Robert, and Gus face their own challenges. Yasmin shifts to private wealth management, Robert struggles with a difficult client, and Gus is uncertain about his career direction.
Season 2 continues to explore themes of inappropriate relationships and substance abuse while providing deeper insights into the characters’ personal lives. New characters include Eric Tao (Ken Leung), Rishi Ramdani (Sagar Radia), and Danny Van Deventer (Alex Alomar Akpobome), an Executive Director from Pierpoint’s New York office.
Season 3 will see Sarah Goldberg and Kit Harington join the cast. Goldberg will play Petra Koenig, a portfolio manager at FutureDawn, and Harington will portray Henry Muck, CEO of Lumi, a green tech company.
Harper’s Ambition in Season 2
Throughout Season 2, Harper focuses on maintaining her relationship with Jesse Bloom, her most profitable client. By the season finale, it becomes evident that Jesse has been manipulating her. He uses insider information from Harper, via Gus, to short FastAide stock.
During a CNN interview, Jesse instructs Harper to buy shares of FastAide’s competitor, Rican. Despite Eric’s warnings about the legal risks, Harper continues, leading Eric to report her for forging her college degree to HR, resulting in her firing.
We also see more of Harper’s background. She searches for her estranged brother John (Adain Bradley), eventually finding him and rekindling their troubled past. They use drugs together, and John reveals how their mother’s pressure drove him away from home. Harper attempts to reconcile, but John rejects her and calls her a narcissist.
Eric’s Struggle for Relevance
Eric receives more attention in Season 2, exploring his past and current struggles. As an older employee on the CPS desk, he faces competition from younger colleagues like Harper and Danny. When Pierpoint plans to merge its London and New York sales teams, Eric and his team consider leaving for another company.
They almost secure a deal with Shogun but are deterred by the relocation requirement. Instead, they blackmail their boss Bill Adler (Trevor White) with evidence of Pierpoint’s mishandling of sexual assault complaints. Eric protects Harper by facilitating her firing.
Robert’s Client Exploitation
Robert endures significant hardships in Season 2. Sober but struggling, he fails to connect romantically with Harper and Yasmin. He develops an inappropriate relationship with Nicole Craig (Sarah Parish), a Pierpoint client who exploits his inexperience.
After falling back into drinking, Robert tries to recruit a grad but fails, leading to a scandalous incident involving Venetia (Indy Lewis) and Nicole. Venetia reports the assault, which leads to Robert’s arrest for drug possession, and Nicole bails him out. Robert tries to confront Nicole but remains under her influence.
Yasmin’s Career Shift
Yasmin becomes discontent with her role on the FX desk. After losing a major client, she looks for new opportunities and starts working with Celeste Pacquet (Katrine De Candole), a private wealth manager. Yasmin’s father, Charles (Adam Levy), attempts to mend their relationship, but Yasmin learns of his financial misconduct.
Celeste and Yasmin become romantically involved, with Celeste revealing her open marriage. Yasmin’s jealousy and questionable reaction to Venetia’s assault cause tension, and she ultimately cuts ties with her father and loses Celeste’s support.
Gus’s New Path
Gus, whose career stalled after being cut from RIF, pretends to work on a book. Harper helps him get a tutoring job for Jesse’s son Leo (Sonny Poon Tip). Gus meets Tory MP Aurore Adekunle (Faith Alabi) and finds a new purpose in politics. After Leo’s Oxford rejection, Jesse rewards Gus and helps him secure a place at Oxford.
However, when Aurore discovers Gus leaked insider information, she fires him. Despite this, Jesse hires Gus as his assistant. Season 3 will bring new drama with Goldberg and Harington joining the cast.
Industry is available to stream on Max in the U.S., with new episodes airing every Sunday.
