Trafficked with Mariana Van Zeller Season 2 Episode 5 Recap
Mariana begins the episode in Texas in a hotel room with a meth dealer. She interviews the man. He has three prior arrests, lost his house, two cars, and has nothing else to live for except for his wildly successful methamphetamine retail business. Later on, Van Zeller interviews some meth heads. One is a mom, and she used to work in the interior design industry. The other one is a lawyer.
We then move to California, where Marina joins the Oakland police department, and she hops in for a raid of illegal methamphetamine. She interviews a couple of narcs that tell her that the shipments of drugs are coming in from Mexico. And that takes us to Sinaloa. Mariana meets up with the narcos at the Sierra Madre at a giant meth lab. They take her deep into the mountains to check out a gigantic and polluting furnace that makes meth.
Facing the Military
After she meets up with narcos armed to the teeth that cook meth, on her way out, Mariana and her crew are surrounded by a Mexican military convoy that searches their car and harasses her and her crew. Later on, she and her crew move to a safe house where the drug dealers keep the meth to move it into the United States. Also, Mariana is amazed at the sheer quantities of meth the men are capable of smuggling through the border.
Calexico & LaLa Land
In the border town of Calexico, Mariana and her crew meet up with a shady drug runner at a parking lot where he shows her a bike with hidden meth stashes inside. After that, she goes on to explain how this network of methamphetamine works. Later on, we travel back to Los Ángeles, where a so-called shake n’ bake operation is cooking. The crew has to wear protective masks because the fumes are so toxic. Moreover, Mariana explains how this manufacturing model is sprawling back in America, an industry worth almost US$ 12 million a year.
