Iconic America Episode 6: The Plot
As mentioned, every episode brings to the viewers a new location, or a new iconic symbol that holds meaning to the people of the country, and we get an elaborate explanation of the origin and importance of the place, symbol, or object.
The historians that host Rubenstein invites to the show dive not only into the original meaning and origin of the symbol but also tell us how those symbols have evolved over the years and what meaning they hold to the people presently.
Past episodes of the show have included common but extremely important places like the Statue of Liberty, which was revealed to have been a symbol representing the fight women had to put up to get their right to vote also called the women’s suffrage, and the plight and treatment of the refugees.
One of the episodes was set around the classic American cowboy hats, which pretty much always come to mind when we say the words ‘American countryside cowboys’. How this hat and then the Gadsden Flag became the symbol of the ferocious American nature and love for independence.
We also saw the show discuss the symbolism behind the Hollywood sign which was put up way back in 1923, first as an advertisement but has now evolved into this symbol of wealth, dreams, fame, and fortune. We also saw Americans’ love for sports, and baseball being discussed as the hosts and historians were at Fenway Park.
The fifth episode of the show is going to be set around the iconic symbol of patriotism which resides in the people’s hearts, the American Bald Eagle. It is also a strong representative of the people’s hope and steps toward saving the environment, and also the traditions of the Native Americans.
