The soon-to-be-released The Horror of Dolores Roach has been making waves since it was announced. The horror comedy show is being adapted from a famous podcast of the same name that was released in 2018.
The fans who followed the show are eagerly anticipating the show, hoping that it wouldn’t be another Archive 81 situation that was also a podcast turned show produced by Netflix. Archive 81 was not received well by the audiences since they found the adaptation to fall short of expectations.
The Horror of Dolores Roach is often compared to the famous movie Sweeny Todd featuring Johnny Depp and the American series Dexter. The dark humor and the mystery surrounding the events in the series make this show quite entertaining and novel.
Touching upon grisly themes like murder and cannibalism, The Horror of Dolores Roach is delightfully funny and gruesomely dark. The main character Dolores’ complex personality and motives are an enigma that gives a punch to this dark yet funny story.
The Horror of Dolores Roach tells the story of Dolores Roach, a woman who spent 16 years in prison after being wrongfully accused and sentenced. When Dolores comes out of the prison, she is alone, left with $200 and the clothes on her back, with no family or friends left to contact.
The old neighborhood where Dolores lived has been gentrified, and Dolores finds herself completely alone in the new world she has come out to. Dolores finds a short reprieve when she meets an old friend Luis who gives her a new job as a massage therapist.
Dolores begins her new job in Luis’ restaurant, and she realizes she is quite good at it, finding some stability for the first time in her life. Dolores’ newfound stability is threatened by Luis’ scummy landlord Gideon Pearlman, and he comes down to get a massage.
Things get even worse when Gideon starts getting handsy with Dolores, and this is where the main plot of the series starts kicking off. Gideon Pearlman meets her end at the hands of Dolores, as revealed in the official trailer of the series that was released.
The story is about Dolores Roach, who has been beaten down by her life time and time again, trying to turn the tables on her situation. Dolores Roach’s complex character gets even more intriguing when we see darkness surrounding her.
The actress Justina Machado did an amazing job as Dolores and the various complex emotions that her character brings to the table. The story, mixed with cannibalism, death, depravity, and the dark side of human nature mixed with humor, makes this a perfect watch for fans of horror comedies.
