The Dreaming Man is a Realist: What’s the story?
The novels follow a high schooler, Wataru Sojo, who’s desperately in love with a fellow classmate, Aika Natsukawa. Soju is persistent in this persuasion of Aika’s love, whereas she finds him to be a bit of a nuisance, as he dreams of mutual feelings between the two and follows her every day.
This turns right around when he gets hit in the head by a ball and finally wakes up from his “dream”, and sees the situation for what it really is: him an average boy, whereas Aika is the most gorgeous girl in the whole school. As Soju lets go of his love, his change in attitude stirs something up in Aika, as she ends up wondering whether he started to despise her instead.
As we follow the two through the story, what unfolds is a sweet romantic comedy between a couple of high school students who each wonder if their love is unrequited as they shy away from talking about their feelings.
