Based on the Japanese light novel series, the book series called You Were Experienced, I Was Not: Our Dating Story was taken up by ENGI animation studio and finally released as an animated television series recently. This romance series is charming in its own way, inspiring a whole show, which was the cherry on top of the cake.
The novel series was written by Makiko Nagaoka and was published under Fujimi Shobo’s label sometime in 2020. The wholesome romance series follows the story of a high school outcast and our male lead, Ryuto Kashima, who finds himself confessing to his school’s most popular girl as a penalty for losing a game.
Leader of her clique, topper of her school, and the most beautiful of them all, our female lead, Runa Shirakawa, whom Ryuto confesses, ends up accepting the poor boy’s proposal, leaving the entire school surprised and envious.
The written series and the animation released recently both take us on a journey with the two leads as they explore their relationship some more. The series has Ryuto Kashima, who has been voiced by Natsuki Hanae, and Runa Shirakawa, who is voiced by Saori Onishi.
Apart from these two, the series has characters like Maria Kurose, Nikoru Yamana, Akari Tanikita, Yusuke Ijichi, Ren Nishina, Shugo Sekiya, and Ken, which we are sure you must be familiar with if you have read the series. The original series was released first in September 2020 and continues to publish more additions to the stack.

The plot of the animated series is no different than the plot of the original light novel. We have a meek, outcasted male lead who ends up confessing to the pretty, social, kind, beautiful, always-at-the-top-of-her-game female lead under peer pressure.
And to the surprise of the entire school and Ryuto himself, our social butterfly, says yes, agreeing to go out with him just because she had time and was bored. What started out of boredom for one and punishment for the other soon turned into a genuinely interesting relationship.
With both leads going to the same school and being the same student, yet leading such different lives and belonging to such different worlds, the two end up taking time to get to know each other and their worlds better.
The show is all about how their worlds merge together and that, despite their different hobbies and social circles, Ryuto and Runa learn to hang out with each other, understand and accept their differences, and build a deeper connection with time.
