One Day Off is a 1990s ambient Korean drama web series that tells us the life and struggles of a Korean literature teacher as she takes on a journey spanning a weekend and meets a very diverse set of characters during her days off. The main protagonist, Ha Kyung, goes to a remote prayer shrine in the confines of Haenem, but then, she discovers that there’s more to that travel than the physical journey, as it is also one from the mind.
Taking the time each weekend to embark on a different trip, Ha Kyung finds out that all those places with different people, different flavors, and distinct elements will eventually weave her a path into one that she didn’t expect. Now, today, we’re sharing with you details as to where to watch this series and a few other pieces of data, including an episode guide that you might find useful in your next streaming session.
One Day Off Preview
One Day Off, also distributed as Park Ha-Kyung’s Journey, is a Korean miniseries starring Lee Na-young (you may remember her from “Someone Special” and “The Fugitive: Plan B”), Yeri Han and Koo Kyo-hwan —as stated above— that tells us the story of a teacher that goes through a process of relaxation and spiritual comeuppance by traveling across South Korea. In the series, Ha-Kyung tries to balance her professional, family, and love life but has trouble doing so.
And to unwind, she takes these trips on the weekends and finds that everywhere she goes, she meets someone else and has an experience that brings her closer to finding her meaning, the meaning she’s been looking for as she tries to juggle with the daily challenges of modern life. She goes to prayer shrines, film festivals, libraries, cultural events, and restaurants that pique her curiosity, and each encounter turns out better than the previous one.
The story was developed by Lee Jong Pil, who also sits in the director’s chair for this eight-episode series. If you liked productions like “Eat Pray Love” with a regional twist, then this show is one we’d recommend to you.
