Based on writer Akumi Agitogi’s light romance Japanese novel, an anime series of the same name, My Happy Marriage, produced by Kinema Citrus Studios, is all set for release in July 2023. The novel itself was published on Shosetsuka ni Naro, an online publishing site created for fans to get their hands on novels for free. Since its release in 2019, the novel has been adapted into a manga version and has also been turned into a live-action film.
The said novel is finally being turned into an anime series, and we are here to let you know all about it. The story is about a young woman, visibly unhappy from the life she has with her abusive and toxic family, and how she gets married off to a grumpy and cold-looking military guy, but who has a hidden layer of softness underneath. The two have a thick wall of confusion and hesitation in between, but it is only as they spend time with each other while living together that they get to know more about each other, coming closer together.
The anime has cast Reina Ueda to voice our female lead, Miyo Saimori, Kaito Ishikawa to voice the cold and ruthless army commander, Kiyoka Kudo, Ayane Sakura to voice Kaya Saimori, Koutaro Nishiyama to voice Koji Tatsuishi, and others to voice and portray different characters within the series. The novel itself received a lot of praise, and in 2021 it was even declared as the sixth-best manga for female readers.

My Happy Marriage: The Plot
The story is in the nineteenth century when a family full of people with different supernatural abilities brings into the world Miyo Saimori, a child born without any unique powers. And because she has no powers, her stepmother decides to turn her into a servant for everyone in the house, forcing her into a life of servitude.
And as if her entire life was not difficult as it is, when she reaches a marriageable age, her family decides to marry her off to a ruthless guy, Kiyoka Kudou. This proposal crumbles all of Miyo’s dreams and aspirations of at least having a better life after marriage, where she dreams of not being treated like a nobody. But Kiyoka Kudou’s reputation is known to all, including Miyo. He is known to be a cold, ruthless, cruel army commander.
So terrifying is his reputation that his previous brides have all left him and run away in no more than a span of three days. But things are different for Miyo since she knows that running away will not solve anything for her because she has nowhere to run to and also because the guy could not possibly be worse than her own cruel family.
Knowing that both her future husband and her present family are the worst things to ever happen to her, Miyo gives in to her fate and starts living with her husband, only to realize that Kiyoka Kudou is really not the monster that everyone made him to be. Finding that he might not even be anywhere close to her family, both Miyo and Kiyoka open their hearts to each other and wish to get a chance at love and happiness.
My Happy Marriage: Episode Timings
Fans can catch the first episode of the anime series on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023. The episode will air at 11:30 pm in Japan (Japan Standard Time), and the series will have a total of twelve episodes, with each episode being released on a weekly schedule i.e. a new episode every Wednesday. My Happy Marriage will also be available for streaming on global platforms like Hulu, Disney+, and Netflix. Though on Hulu and Disney+, it will be available only in Japan, international fans will still be able to stream the series through Netflix.
