Heartstopper Season 1’s emphasis on Nick and Charlie’s connection is something we can’t forget. Nick is portrayed by Kit Connor, and Charlie is played by Joe Locke. But how did this connection begin? How do these two people, who appear to attend the same school from separate sides, become friends?

The initial discussion started when they were seated next to one another in a classroom. But when they start exchanging messages on Instagram and get to know one another more, the true friendship starts.

We can see Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell) are good friends right away in Heartstopper. Even their friendship and the two of them are referred to as “best gal pals.” But as the narrative goes on, we learn that they are truly dating.

Only Elle is entirely aware of the nature of their connection because their relationship is initially a secret. At Harry’s party, though, they dance together, and after sharing a photo of it on Instagram, they declare their love. It is at this point that Heartstopper delves a little bit deeper into the problems with homophobia.

Despite their growing intimacy, there are some unresolved issues that neither Nick nor Charlie are willing to face or address. Charlie and Nick don’t tackle these feelings and ultimately kiss until Nick invites Charlie to Harry’s party.

The fact that Charlie finally gets to kiss the boy he likes may make Charlie happy, but Nick may not feel the same way. By that time, he is still figuring out who he is, how to identify himself, and how to behave among people when it comes to his affection for Charlie. He is prompted to flee after the kiss by that uneasy feeling and the remarks made by some of his homophobic peers.

Heartstopper is blunt about the fact that it may be difficult and frightening to come out as gay and tell people you are dating a transgender person. Although they are fortunate to be surrounded by another LGBTQ couple (Tara and Darcy), Charlie and Nick are aware of this. The fact that the two boys are more than simply pals is the first they have heard.

When Tao and Elle join them on their double date, even though they aren’t talking about it, their double date becomes a triple date. By that point, Tao is unaware of the relationship because they haven’t told him, which causes problems between them later.
