The Walking Dead is the kind of show that you feel like it’s been there forever. On air via AMC for over a decade, spawning several spinoffs, this zombie adventure terror thriller post-apocalyptic show managed to captivate everyone that managed to watch it.
The Walking Dead is based on a comic book developed by Robert Kirkman, and it tells a story of a group of people who once had normal lives, but when the zombie apocalypse hit, their moral code shifted into survival mode. Now, as I continue to review shows, series, and movies, I’ll try to be as fair and balanced as I can be with this show. I’ll review the production value, the character and plot development, and other aspects.
How Many Seasons Are There In The Walking Dead?
The Walking Dead has had eleven seasons and a total of 177 episodes. Making it one of the longest-running zombie apocalypse shows, a series that managed to get cult following status and sets “a before and after” moment in the world of adventure thrillers.
Is It Worth Watching?
The Walking Dead is worth watching, in my opinion, it’s a long series with lots of moments and lots of plot twists, but all in all, that’s one of the things that made it stand the test of time, the approval of the viewers and the awards it managed to win across ten years.
Should you commit to watching ‘The Walking Dead’? The answer is a resounding yes. So strap in and prepare for a truly unforgettable journey through a world where survival becomes the ultimate test of human strength and adaptability.
The Walking Dead Plot and Character Development
The series primarily revolves around former sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his varied group of survivors, whose composition constantly fluctuates in a testament to the unpredictable nature of survival during an apocalypse. As the characters embark on their tireless odyssey, key relationships emerge, showcasing the strength of the human spirit and the necessity for collaboration in a hostile world.
Over the course of the 11 seasons, the show has depicted characters’ individual storylines, revealing their darkest corners and making them relatable to the viewers. Impressive character development has been the series’ strong suit, underlined by the striking transformation of Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) from a meek and submissive wife to a battle-hardened warrior or the moral evolution of Rick Grimes as the weight of leadership molds his decisions and actions.

Production Values & Performances
The Walking Dead has a lot of things going for the intense performances of their cast, who go to lengths to play their characters with great professionalism, the ultra-real, spooky realistic special effects, and the well-orchestrated and nicely edited haunting soundtracks that go with the episodes to set a stage. The series’s creators have managed to bring to life a dystopian world that never ceases to deliver goosebumps, striking a balance between blood-curdling horror and gritty realism.
As I stated earlier, one of the things that makes The Walking Dead kick ass is the many layers of depth, the complex and flawed personalities of the characters’ portrayal through each cast member’s performance.
With this kind of kick-ass acting, it’s no wonder why the show rocks so much. I mean, there are many characters, but starting with Andrew Lincoln’s Rick to Norman Reedus’s role as Daryl Dixon, each actor and actress has brought their A-game and unique flair to the series.
The Problem With The Walking Dead’s Pacing
Despite ‘The Walking Dead’s’ strengths, the series has had some pacing problems over the course of its lengthy run. Frankly, the show’s slow af, with some episodes concentrating primarily on particular characters or plotlines and sometimes even serving as a good sleeping pill.
While using this technique can result in deeper character development, sometimes I feel like the larger story isn’t moving forward quickly enough or with enough action, I want to know what’s the deal with the virus, or are they’re ever finding the cure but that seems to shift a lot in TWD.
However, other seasons manage to strike the perfect balance between episodes that focus on the characters and combat fight scenes that are packed with action, explosions, and gory violence, making for a consistently exciting ride.
‘The Walking Dead’ offers an exciting experience that delves into the psychology of human survival in a harsh, post-apocalyptic environment. It is a series that makes a lasting impression on the television industry thanks to its impressive performances, great character development, and engaging production values. The show’s strengths far surpass its shortcomings, despite the fact that pace concerns can turn off some viewers.
