The makers first hinted at the show in the popular CBS series, JAG, where some of the characters and the concept of this show were mentioned in two different episodes. And with creators Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill, the show not only came to be as a spinoff inspired by JAG but has a whole franchise under its name.
The show has actors, Mark Harmon, Sasha Alexander, David McCallum, Sean Murray, Michael Weatherly, Lauren Holly, Maria Bello, and so many other talented actors and actresses that keep the show running and alive.
Crime drama fans who have a special interest in knowing more about the specifics of the police procedures during an investigation would definitely take a liking to the show. The series follows a team of special agents banded together under the team name, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, or the NCIS who work with high-visibility crimes.
The NCIS comes under the Department of Navy in the United States and as the name suggests, it deals with all of those crimes that come under the Navy and the Marine Corps. And this is exactly the kind of crimes our fictional team of NCIS members deal with in the show.
How Many Seasons Are There In NCIS?
If you plan on getting into the show then make sure that you are ready to fully devote a long period of time to this show considering that NCIS has a total of twenty complete seasons all ready for you to binge. What is even better, the producers of the show have announced that it has already been renewed for a twenty-first season as well.
We should also probably tell you that this is not the only version of NCIS that you can watch. The show was first mentioned in two different episodes of another crime series called JAG, season eight had two episodes titled ‘Icequeen’ and ‘Meltdown’. Both of these have captured the first-ever mention of NCIS.
There are two separate series called NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS: Los Angeles, both of which originated from the original series. So when you are done obsessing over the OG series, you can always move on to watching these two series for more crime tales.
Is NCIS Worth The Watch?
We say it is worth watching, but only if you are ready to invest your time into it. The series is twenty, almost twenty-one, seasons long so there is no way you will be able to complete it within a few days. As time-consuming as it is, the show has managed to remain a favorite for the American audience as with the release of its first few seasons, it had managed to secure a position as one of the most watched television series in the US during 2012-2013.
The first three seasons might feel like they lack direction, but the show gets a grip by the fourth season, and by the time you will reach the fifth season, we guarantee you will not be able to leave your screen for a second.
The show has compelling stories or cases that the NCIS team works on, the teamwork shown is great, and the chemistry between the actors feels real on-screen. The dialogues written also feel very real and well-researched, unlike a lot of other crime shows and movies where most actors say things just because they sound cool.
Considering that the show is a crime drama series following the team around as they solve the cases, the humor used in the show is generously spread and dark, for the most part. The actors do such a tremendous job portraying their characters right from the start, it will be difficult for you to see them as actors and not their characters after you are done with the show.
The show has its ups and downs, but for the most part, it remains a great watch with a relatively high rating for a show that has been airing since 2003. It is an entertaining piece of media, and definitely something you should if you are on the hunt for a mature crime show that has it all.
