What is the New Anime “High Card” All About? A Complete Synopsis
Fin used to spend his day resting on the streets and roaming around, meeting new people and hanging out with the old ones, everything was going smoothly and he was quite happy with it, with no regrets or dissatisfaction. He was like a ray of sunshine to the people around him.
It was going like this until he got to know that the orphanage he lived in was going to shut down because of a financial crisis. Seeing his home getting lost like this broke his heart completely but he couldn’t just sit around and just cry about it.
He decides to try his luck out at a casino in the hope that he will get filthy rich and save his orphanage. However, nice guys always have the hardest route, a literal hell was waiting for him at the casino, where he had encountered a car chase and a bloody shootout just because of a lucky card a man possessed.
Turns out the shootout had more to it than just greed and blood, which he would find out later in the story, it is shown that the world he lives in isn’t as free as he thought. The 52 X-Playing cards are the remote controller of it, whoever possesses them is the new king of the place.
The one who has the cards has the power to hand down superhuman abilities to anyone he wants and just sit back and enjoy the riches while the superhumans do the dirty work for him. These people will be able to discover different types of “buddies” within them.
It is unfolded that there is a secret organization that works directly for the King of Fourland and has the sole goal of finding these cards. It is called High Card, and all of its members are disguised as workers of the luxurious carmaking shop of Pinochle.
With the intention to become a member, he joins the group hastily and plays with them the dangerous game of hide and seeks that might even cost him his life midst of all this. Nobody knows who is who and who might betray them in their time of need.
The enemy-ous car maker has the desire to take Pinochle’s position in the market, and on the other hand, an infamous mafia gang, Klondikes are trying to stop these hungry-for-the-cards players who are doing it for justice, desire, and the need for revenge.
