Written by Caroline Moran, Henpocalypse! was directed by Holly Walsh of Motherland. The comic series Raised by Wolves, which Caroline Moran co-wrote with her sister Caitlin Moran, who is also a comedic genius, was one of her earlier comedic creations.
Hullraisers’ first season was written by her as well, and season two is currently being written. Lucie Shorthouse, who plays Zara, talked about reading the series’ script and her impressions of Moran’s writing.
She admitted to liking Caroline’s writing when she initially read it to British Comedy Guide! It’s always good when the writing fits so beautifully, and it was a joy to get to bring her words to life. She recalls getting the audition and having her closest friend read in for her. They still laugh because they can see how much Zara reminded them of each other.

Five women are followed on the ultimate hen-do in Henpocalypse!, which doesn’t exactly go as planned. Demanding bride Zara and her four hens are left to endure the end of the world together after their enjoyable weekend in a remote hamlet in Wales is destroyed by the terrible disease known as “crab measles.”
Then they find that everyone in the world has been wiped off save for their hired stripper Drew when they come out into the harsh, new, post-apocalyptic reality. When confronted with a bunch of radicalized Pilates teachers who are armed with sex toys, will the girls put their strained relationships aside and figure out how to survive together?

Henpocalypse Filming Locations
Henpocalypse! was filmed in the Clwydian Range in the nation’s northeast as well as the North Wales communities of Llanfair Talhaiarn and Abergele. Additionally, Snowdonia proper and The Wirral were used for filming.
Scenes were reportedly filmed at Olivia’s, a well-known neighborhood cafe housed in a former fuel station, in the community of Llanfair Talhaiarn in February of this year. According to reports, the backdrop for the action also included The Post Office, School Lane, and The Black Lion bar.
Letters warning of impending filming were delivered to residents and businesses, stating that Henpocalypse is being filmed by different Artists Limited. Several companies have consented to let us film near Llanfair Talhaiarn while we are shooting in Abergele and other parts of North Wales.
Film crews occupied the Moel Famau parking lot near the Clwydian Range, which is located close to the border between Denbighshire and Flintshire, and were seen by locals. A local claimed to have observed filming at the Clwydian Range’s tallest hill.
The car park where visitors park is completely packed, they reported to the Chester Standard after just taking a walk up Moel Famau from the Ruthin end via Llanbedr-Dyffryn-Clwyd. Huge television trucks, lorries, four-wheel drives, and private security are present.
The Pensby High School for Boys in The Wirral, which is no longer in operation, served as the base for a set that was built there. The Liverpool Echo reported that other Wirral locales, including Dawstone Park, Birkenhead, and Woodchurch, were used for filming.
