Helldivers 2 has reportedly sold nearly 23 million copies and generated approximately $800 million in revenue across its platforms, according to estimates from Alinea Analytics. The milestone further demonstrates the extraordinary performance of Arrowhead Game Studios’ cooperative shooter, which launched in February 2024 and quickly became one of PlayStation’s biggest unexpected successes.
The latest figures are estimates rather than an official sales announcement from Sony or Arrowhead. Still, they underline how far Helldivers 2 has progressed from its initial launch, when server problems and overwhelming demand created significant challenges for the development team.
Helldivers 2 Continues to Expand Across Platforms
Helldivers 2 originally launched on PlayStation 5 and PC simultaneously, an unusual strategy for a major PlayStation-published release. The decision helped the game reach a much larger audience from day one, with the title eventually expanding to Xbox Series X|S in August 2025. Sony’s official PlayStation listing now identifies PS5, PC and Xbox as supported platforms.
Alinea previously estimated in January 2026 that Helldivers 2 had crossed 20 million copies and generated more than $700 million in gross revenue. Its latest estimate therefore suggests that the game has added millions of additional sales since then, despite already having reached a massive audience.
The game’s momentum is also significant because Helldivers 2 was not initially expected to become one of Sony’s biggest commercial hits. Sony had previously confirmed 12 million sales within its first 12 weeks, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation game at that point.
The latest Alinea estimates suggest the game has become considerably larger than that early milestone. The research firm also estimates that around one million players continue to play Helldivers 2 monthly on PlayStation, highlighting the game’s ability to maintain an active audience well beyond its launch period.
Helldivers 2 Could Shape Sony’s Live-Service Strategy
The success of Helldivers 2 is particularly important for Sony because the company has invested heavily in live-service games as a way to create recurring revenue alongside its traditional single-player releases. Sony itself has previously highlighted Helldivers 2 as an example of the potential of expanding PlayStation games beyond the console ecosystem.
Unlike many of Sony’s prestige single-player games, Helldivers 2 was built around repeat multiplayer sessions, ongoing updates and cooperative gameplay. That model gives Sony and Arrowhead more opportunities to generate revenue from an active player base instead of relying primarily on the initial sale of a game.
Arrowhead’s own description of the game emphasizes its four-player cooperative structure, with players able to coordinate weapons, equipment and powerful Stratagems while fighting hostile forces across the galaxy.
