Recap
Episode 11 of “Heaven Official’s Blessing” takes us on an adventure through both the past and the present. The story starts with a flashback in which Hua Cheng’s butterfly fails to see a tunnel in Yong’an’s outskirts. Qianqiu buries Xie Lian in this tunnel, trapping him within a coffin. Xie Lian strives to release himself when he awakens, but the coffin is still closed.
Xie Lian is confused and believes that all of his previous sacrifices have been in vain. Hua Cheng is now trying to comfort him. Xie Lian remembers how things were improving in the town while Qianqiu’s father was in charge until Qi Rong showed up and completely wrecked everything. This creates an atmosphere that invites a variety of emotions and a deeper understanding of people’s histories.
We see Xie Lian confronting Anle in another flashback, which raises tension since Anle accuses him of siding with their enemies to get revenge. Xie Lian, looking upset, pulls his sword. Back to the present, Xie Lian has self-doubt and wonders if Qi Rong’s accusations about him being a failure are true. Hua Cheng downplays Qi Rong’s achievements, saying he has only proven to be a difficult target.
Xie Lian is motivated by this to decide to demolish a monument of himself and rescue the inmates. As Hua Cheng frees the prisoners, Xie Lian questions how Hua Cheng knew Qi Rong was the mastermind behind all of the commotion.
Hua Cheng demonstrates an in-depth awareness of the circumstances through his knowledge of Qi Rong’s past with Yong’an and his awareness of the dynamics between the cousins. Curious by Hua Cheng’s wisdom, Xie Lian questions whether Hua Cheng is someone from his past possibly even before he rose to godhood. But before Hua Cheng can reply, Xie Lian brushes the idea aside out of concern that it would make them uneasy revealing their genuine identities.
When Feng Xin and Shi Qingxuan arrive, the story takes a different turn. Xie Lian’s explanation is accepted by Qingxuan in her lucky female form, but Feng Xin is still cautious of Hua Cheng. Qingxuan gets confused by Feng Xin and Hua Cheng’s hatred as tensions grow throughout their exchange of words. It’s a funny moment when Qingxuan diverts Feng Xin’s attention, foiling Xie Lian’s attempts to mediate.
The episode reveals the depth of the people ties by pulling back the layers of their backgrounds and relationships. The fact that Qi Rong goes around using his name without restriction astounds Feng Xin, while Qingxuan is pleased by the range of connections Xie Lian has with the group.
Things grow heated when the gang engages with the living ghosts. Hua Cheng enters with a show of power and unleashes an outburst of bloodshed. Feng Xin becomes covered in blood while attempting to maintain control of the situation. The funny scenario that results from Qingxuan’s attempts to clean his face highlights the various connections among the group.
Xie Lian declares at the end of the episode that he is interested in working with Hua Cheng to reassemble Paradise Manor. However, the spirit king tells him that he can visit at any time and begs him to focus on his tasks. The program ends with a moving discussion stressing the importance of moving forward in the face of tragedy.
Stated differently, the episode is a rollercoaster of emotions that allows us to see into the characters’ pasts through flashbacks. Hua Cheng and his companions help Xie Lian get over his self-doubt and find the bravery to face the challenges that lay ahead. The plot is made more enjoyable to watch by the humorous and deep character relationships.
