Halloween Ends Review
The movie begins with Corey, a 21-year-old, obligated to babysit Jeremy, a young, mischievous, and bratty boy, on Halloween of 2019. The kid decides to play a prank on Corey and locks him in the attic for fun. Corey starts to panic, and starts slamming his hand on the door, and tries to escape the locked room, but all his attempts are futile.
Michaels attempts to kill Laurie.
Corey is finally freed with a swift kick to the door, and the door flies open. This results in knocking Jeremy off his feet, and unfortunately, Jeremy falls to his death. That is the exact moment that Jeremy’s parents appear. To them, it looks like they caught Corey red-handed.
Corey was brought to court and was filed against murder, and finally, he was released by stating manslaughter. Now Corey works in his stepfather’s salvage yard and is still seen as a ‘murderer’ and an ‘outcast.’ The whole town is now aware of Corey and his mishap.
One day as he was going back, a home group of bullies started to torment Corey. They succeed by triggering Corey, which makes him fight back. He ends up hurting himself as he is outnumbered. Laurie sees them hurt and lying on the ground, so she takes him into the house and offers first aid. Laurie tends to him as much as she can with her medical supplies.
Then she takes him to the hospital where her granddaughter, Allyson, works at. Allyson treats Corey and offers support and love. They start liking each other and become a couple. One day Allyson decides to take him to a Halloween party, and on Corey’s way back, the tormenters yet make an appearance. This time they take it too far by literally throwing him off a bridge.
This is when the directors throw a curve ball. Michael Myers, who had disappeared for nearly 4 years, reappears and drags Corey through the gutters. Then Michael starts to choke Corey with the intention of killing him. Suddenly Michael lets him go, and Corey scrambles away, scared for his life. While trying to escape out of the sewers, a homeless man starts to threaten him.
Frightened and shocked, he stabs the homeless man and runs away without looking back. From then on, everything goes downhill…Corey turns to a murderer’s life, starting by killing a homeless man. Another day when Corey and Allyson are out on a date, her ex-boyfriend and current police officer, Doug Mulaney, sees them together and starts to harass them.
Angry at this, Corey plans to kill him. He traps Doug and lures him into the sewers, where he meets Michael, hoping that Michael sees Doug and does all the dirty work for him. To his luck, Michael ends up killing the policeman. The next victim is a doctor and a nurse who is having an affair with the former. The doctor is killed by Corey at his home, and Michael kills the nurse.
Now, it seems as though both Corey and Michael are working together on their killing spree. This is when Laurie comes into play. She starts to notice things and is terrified for the safety of her granddaughter. Corey plans to continue his massacre and decides to fight with Michael for the mask.
After succeeding in doing so, he starts by killing his bullies, his mother, and a DJ. Then Corey is lured into the trap laid out by Laurie and is about to be captured. Just in time, Allyson appears, but Corey stabs himself, making it look like Laurie killed him.
Shocked and fumbling, she makes her way out of the house; that is when Michael makes an appearance, and a fight ensues. The movie ties its loose ends when Laurie and Allyson together kill Michael and dispose of him. And it cuts to Allyson leaving the town and Laurie finishing what she came there for, writing a memoir and also finding love.
Our Thoughts:
There is a vast difference between the first Halloween movie and this one. To say it in simpler words, there were a lot of expectations for the final movie of the trilogy, but only a few were met. The movie goes about a similar experience it had in the other movies, and the previous movie also had quite a bit of bad reviews.
The first half of the movie was just dull and boring. It didn’t even go through with any horror. It just recapped some boring story about Corey. And when you expect it to become better. It doesn’t. The movie seems to be getting progressively worse. The opening scene is the least of what you expect, and that is just the beginning.
Laurie, who is supposed to be a key character in the movie, plays absolutely no important role, and the only okayish scene is the feud between Michael Myers and Laurie. Even for watching it, we have to endure the entire movie until it gets to that part.
We, the viewers, had expected the finale to be exciting, thrilling, and nerve-wracking. Alas, the movie made non not even have one of the feelings we wanted. This movie just feels like a parody when comparing it to the others. When they should have finished with a bang, they finished with a whimper?!
People think that the directors should have just stopped with Halloween(2018). The effect that the other movies had has brought a lot of audiences to the edge of their seat with anticipation, and this movie just feels like a letdown.
The ending is just outrageous. What kind of horror movie has that kind of bland and “sweet” ending? To conclude, the movie is a major flop. The overall plot feels like it has been reused, and the part that Allyson plays doesn’t even make sense.
There is more drama to the story than there is horror. There was a lot of build-up going towards the end of the movie, making us look forward to an awesometastic ending and biting our nails wondering what would happen next, but instead, they gave us exactly what we didn’t want.
To answer the question from the title, does the movie end? Is this the last? Yes, yes, it is, the director refuses to make another movie and confirms that this is the last movie in the trilogy, and this is where Halloween really does end. Well, it could have been better if they ended about 2-3 movies back or at least made a better ending.
Green shares that there were actually many other ways that they thought of ending the movie. Laurie attempting suicide and actually killing herself and also Corey and Allyson running away with all their misdeeds left behind were some of the endings that they had thought up.
Halloween Ends, Thank God That It Does
To conclude, (no sugar coating) the movie is terrible when compared to its predecessors. The movie lacks mystery, and everything is just put out into the open. Jump-scares are well implemented in the movie. Halloween Ends starts off with suspense in the air and ends with just stale air.
Our Rating: ⭐ (1.5/5).
