GOT7’s Park Jinyoung is preparing to take viewers into a turbulent period of Korean history with his upcoming drama, 100 Days of Deception.

Ahead of the series premiere, the actor has shared his thoughts on the project, highlighting its interconnected storytelling and the importance of understanding the past.

Combining historical elements with espionage and romance, the tvN drama follows individuals whose lives become entangled amid political tensions and concealed identities during the Japanese occupation of Korea.

With a story that brings together personal struggles and the larger realities of its historical setting, the series is shaping up to be a significant new project for the actor.

Park Jinyoung Highlights the Interconnected Stories Behind His New Drama

Directed by Yoo In Shik, who previously worked on Extraordinary Attorney Woo and the Dr. Romantic series, 100 Days of Deception unfolds over 100 days during the Japanese occupation of Korea.

The narrative centres on Lee Ga Kyeong, played by Kim You Jung, a skilled pickpocket in Gyeongseong, present-day Seoul, whose life takes an unexpected turn when she becomes an undercover spy for the Korean independence movement.

Her mission requires her to infiltrate the Japanese Government-General of Korea, where she encounters Kim Tae Woong, portrayed by Park Jinyoung.

However, Tae Woong is also known as Sato Hideo, a name connected to the complicated circumstances of his upbringing and position within the colonial administration.

Sato Hideo is the adopted son of Sato Shinichi, played by Jin Sun Kyu, who holds the position of Inspector-General of Korea, the second-highest-ranking official in the administration.

After spending approximately 10 years away from Korea, Hideo returns to take on an important assignment as an interpreter.

Fluent in Japanese, English, and Korean, he possesses the linguistic abilities required for his role, but his identity adds another layer of complexity to the story.

Ahead of the premiere, Park Jinyoung explained what attracted him to the drama’s storytelling and its portrayal of the characters’ relationships.

He remarked,

“‘100 Days of Deception’ has the strength of a narrative in which the emotions and stories of each character are intricately connected, like a spiderweb, within their era.

It’s a story that I want everyone to know.

While reading the script, I truly felt how important it is for us to know our past as we go about living our lives.”

His comments draw attention to the way the drama connects individual experiences with the historical circumstances surrounding them.

Rather than following a single character in isolation, the series brings together different perspectives, motivations, and personal histories that influence the direction of the narrative.

The relationship between Ga Kyeong and Hideo is expected to be particularly important as their paths cross within the Government-General.

While Ga Kyeong must protect her identity as an undercover agent, Hideo occupies a position that places him close to the centre of colonial power.

Their contrasting circumstances create opportunities for suspicion, unexpected developments, and emotional complications as the story progresses.

A Historical Spy Romance That Connects the Past With the Present

Beyond its espionage storyline, 100 Days of Deception aims to give contemporary audiences an opportunity to engage with a period of history they may not have personally experienced.

Through the experiences of its central characters, the drama explores how individual lives unfold amid political uncertainty and how personal relationships can become intertwined with larger historical events.

Park Jinyoung also spoke about the opportunity the series offers viewers to encounter the past through a fictional story.

He stated,

“‘100 Days of Deception’ is a drama that allows us to indirectly experience a past that we never personally lived through. Please give it lots of love.”

The actor’s remarks reinforce the historical dimension of the project.

By presenting the experiences of people living through a challenging period, the drama seeks to encourage viewers to consider the importance of remembering and understanding earlier generations.

For Park Jinyoung, the role of Hideo, who is also known as Kim Tae Woong, offers an opportunity to explore a character whose circumstances are closely connected to questions of identity and belonging.

His character’s position as an interpreter and adopted son of a senior colonial official places him in a complicated environment, particularly after he encounters Ga Kyeong.

Kim You Jung’s character, meanwhile, must balance her undercover mission with the need to maintain her assumed identity.

Their developing connection forms an important part of the series, bringing romantic tension into a story shaped by secrecy and political conflict.

With Yoo In Shik directing and a cast that includes Park Jinyoung, Kim You Jung, and Jin Sun Kyu, 100 Days of Deception combines historical drama, romance, and espionage within a tightly defined timeline.

The series is scheduled to premiere on October 10, 2026, at 9:10 p.m. KST on tvN.

As its debut approaches, viewers will have the opportunity to discover how Ga Kyeong and Hideo’s lives become intertwined and how their individual choices shape their journeys through a complicated period of Korean history.
