After a long wait of 52 years, Golge will air for the first time on TV. The anime was lost for so long, but it will finally aired in Japan after keeping its viewers for such a long break.
Golgo 13 anime, produced by Saito Production, was first released in April 1971 and aired till July 1971. Later on, on 28 May 1983, its anime movie was released under the name Golgo 13 the Professional.
The story is based on a Seinen manga written by Takao Saito named Golgo 13 that started back in 1968 and is still going to this day with over 209 volumes and over 631. However, Saito died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 84 on September 24, 2021.
So, the story has left us all unfinished. However, in this article, we will be discussing when the anime will be released with its plot to summarize the story.
Golgo 13 Plot
In the story of Golgo 13, we follow Duke Togo, code-named Golgo 13, a professional killer for hire. He has been tasked with assassinating the heir to the Dawson Empire, Robert Dawson, the son of oil Baron Leonard Dawson.
The hit is successful, and Golgo goes on to take other jobs, like the hit on Dr C, a powerful Crime Boss in Sicily. But suddenly, Golgo finds himself under attack from the US military, the CIA, the FBI, and the Pentagon.
Even genetically enhanced super soldiers are sent to kill him and his contacts. It turns out that Leonard Dawson, the very oil Baron whose son he killed, is hiring these killers so that he can get revenge on Golgo for killing his son.
But as time passes, the assassination attempts keep failing. Dawson slowly starts losing his mind, getting more and more desperate in his attempts to kill Golgo, which leads him to become a danger to those around him, including his own family.
If Golgo wants to stay alive, he’s gonna have to track down Leonard and kill him, but also take out all the killers that are after him first. So there really is only one way to explain what you will get out of Golgo 13: cheese CSL 80s action by a badass manly man with no emotions or personality.
Golge is not a very good character in this story. His lack of emotions does make him a bit of an unintentionally funny character. Add to that some impossible sniper shots, and cool guys don’t look at explosions type of scenes, and you’re in for a good time.
While GoGo might not have much in terms of personality, the villains sure do. However, their quote-unquote personalities can mostly be explained as them being insane. In the case of Leonard Dawson, the rich oil Baron who once Golge killed, that makes sense.
He’s a shady guy who is gripped by a need for revenge, and as he grows more and more impatient due to all the failed attempts at Golge’s life, he even starts putting his own family in danger.
For example, when he hires the killer Snake. In order to get his cooperation, he traps Laura, his deceased son’s wife, in the same room as Snake. Leonard also sends his own granddaughter, Emily, together with their Butler, to kill Golge at an airport.
So, at least they managed to build up Leonard as a bad guy somewhat, though they could have done a better job with the rest of his family, as they mostly feel like father characters.
When & Where Golge 13 Will Release?
Golge 13 will air on the BS-TBS channel in Japan starting from December 10–17, 2023, under the title, Golge 13 Selection. However, only a few episodes have been recovered so far. The anime is only announced to air in Japan for now, but we will soon see if it’s also released on streaming services.
The anime was originally aired as 22 half-length episodes, covering ten stories (with 2-3 episodes per story). So now it will be re-aired over seven days, in 1-hour blocks for the first four days and then half-hour blocks for the remaining three days.
