Criticism has surfaced among (G)I-DLE fans regarding the group’s lack of communication, particularly centred around member Jeon So-yeon’s infrequent engagement with fans through the group’s paid communication service.
Fans have voiced their concerns, citing disappointment over the limited interaction despite subscribing to (G)I-DLE’s communication platform. They note that the frequency of member communication and interaction falls short of expectations, with no messages or greetings posted even on significant occasions such as the group’s recent 6th debut anniversary.
A netizen identified as a fan of Jeon So-yeon attracted attention with a message directed at the idol on social media. The message urged Jeon So-yeon to prioritize communication with fans, emphasizing her role as an idol before being a producer.
Upon scrutiny of Jeon So-yeon’s interaction history on the group’s communication platform since its inception in April last year, fans discovered minimal engagement from the (G)I-DLE leader, with only one post recorded this year. Expressing frustration, fans highlighted instances where Jeon So-yeon appeared to have time for other activities but neglected fan communication.
The netizen’s message resonated widely in online communities, sparking enthusiastic responses from fellow netizens. Many expressed sympathy for the fan’s concerns, emphasizing the importance of meaningful communication in fan-idol relationships. However, divergent opinions emerged, with some suggesting fans exit the fandom if dissatisfied with the level of engagement.
Amid this discourse, (G)I-DLE made a comeback with “Super Lady,” the title track of their second full album. However, the group faced setbacks as promotion was halted due to members’ health issues. Nonetheless, the group resumed promotions with “Fate,” which unexpectedly gained popularity.
The ongoing discussion underscores the significance of communication between idols and fans in the K-pop industry, with fans advocating for greater engagement and transparency from their favourite artists.
