Atsushi Miyauchi Returns as Borma

For longtime Ghost in the Shell fans, Atsushi Miyauchi’s casting brings a familiar voice back to Public Security Section 9. He previously portrayed Borma in Ghost in the Shell: Arise, making this his second time taking on the role in the franchise.

Miyauchi’s return adds a sense of continuity to Science SARU’s new adaptation, even though the series is introducing its own visual style and interpretation of Masamune Shirow’s original manga. While the new anime features a refreshed cast and creative direction, familiar voices like Miyauchi help connect it to earlier entries in the long-running franchise.

Borma has always been one of Section 9’s dependable members, known for his technical expertise and calm presence during missions.

The New Ghost in the Shell Anime Is Now Airing

The new The Ghost in the Shell TV anime premiered on Japanese television on July 7, 2026, as part of the new Ka-Anival!! Programming block on Kansai TV and Fuji TV. Before its television debut, the first two episodes were screened at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June, giving international audiences an early look at the series.

Following each broadcast in Japan, new episodes stream on Prime Video Japan. The anime is also available through Amazon in more than 240 countries and regions, making it one of the franchise’s widest global releases to date, although mainland China, Russia, and Vietnam are not included.

The series features a strong returning cast, including Maaya Sakamoto as Motoko Kusanagi, Kazuhiro Yamaji as Daisuke Aramaki, Hiroki Yasumoto as Batou, and Yūichi Nakamura as Togusa. With Miyauchi now joining as Borma, the core members of Section 9 continue to take shape.
