The newest chapter in the Ghost in the Shell franchise has officially arrived. The latest The Ghost in the Shell TV anime has begun airing in Japan and streaming globally, marking the return of one of anime’s most influential science-fiction series. Alongside the premiere, the production committee has announced the official soundtrack album, giving fans their first look at the music release planned for later this year.
Known for shaping the cyberpunk genre across anime, manga, and film for more than three decades, Ghost in the Shell continues to influence creators worldwide. The new television adaptation aims to build on that legacy, while the soundtrack brings together three acclaimed composers whose work spans anime, film, television, and gaming.
The soundtrack will be released in both CD and vinyl formats and will also become available on major music streaming platforms, allowing fans worldwide to experience the score beyond the series itself.
The Ghost in the Shell soundtrack arrives this September
According to the official announcement, The Ghost in the Shell O.S.T. will launch as a two-disc CD album on September 9, 2026, through FlyingDog Inc. The release will retail for 3,960 yen (tax included), while first-press editions will feature special packaging. The soundtrack’s cover art will showcase a brand-new illustration by tarou2 from Science SARU, with additional artwork details to be revealed later.
Fans who prefer digital music won’t have to wait longer than CD buyers. The complete soundtrack will also be available on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, LINE MUSIC, AWA, Rakuten Music, KKBOX, Qobuz, and other major streaming and download services beginning September 9.
For collectors, FlyingDog has also confirmed a two-disc vinyl edition, scheduled for release on September 30, 2026, priced at 7,700 yen.

Acclaimed composers lead the new score
The music for the new anime is led by Taisei Iwasaki, who also serves as the series’ music director. Iwasaki is widely recognized for composing the award-winning soundtrack for Belle (Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime), which earned the Japan Academy Award for Best Music, along with credits on Blood Blockade Battlefront (Kekkai Sensen), Spriggan, and numerous live-action productions.
Joining him is Ryo Konishi, an accomplished composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist known for directing the opening ceremony of the 2025 Osaka World Expo and producing music for artists including Mrs. GREEN APPLE, Chara+YUKI, TOMOO, and King & Prince.
The creative team is completed by Yuki Kanesaka, a Boston-based composer and Berklee College of Music assistant professor whose credits include Dr. Stone, Jujutsu Kaisen, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Sonic Racing.
A new era for an iconic cyberpunk franchise
The launch of the new TV anime represents another milestone for the long-running Ghost in the Shell franchise, which continues to evolve while introducing its cyberpunk world to a new generation of viewers.
With global streaming now underway and an original soundtrack arriving in September, fans have multiple ways to experience the latest interpretation of Masamune Shirow’s influential science-fiction universe. The combination of internationally recognized composers, new artwork from Science SARU, and worldwide music distribution reflects the franchise’s continued global appeal more than three decades after its debut.
