Gal Gadot has criticized how DC Studios handled several major figures during its transition away from the Zack Snyder era, specifically pointing to Henry Cavill’s Superman exit and Patty Jenkins’ departure from Wonder Woman 3. The actress said the changes surrounding the franchise were not handled as smoothly as they could have been.
Speaking on the Happy, Sad Confused podcast, Gadot was asked whether James Gunn and Peter Safran ever directly told her that she would no longer play Wonder Woman. She said they initially told her the opposite, claiming they planned to develop a third Wonder Woman movie with her. However, Gadot said she became concerned after watching how other members of the previous DC era were treated.
Gal Gadot Criticizes How Henry Cavill’s Superman Exit Was Handled
Gadot specifically highlighted Cavill’s situation, saying she was personally involved while the events unfolded.
“The Henry situation was unfortunate. I was in the middle of that. The Henry situation was not handled elegantly, to say the least,”
she said during the podcast interview. Gadot added that she felt similarly about Jenkins’ experience, although she stressed that she did not consider the issue personal.
Cavill had publicly announced his return as Superman in October 2022 after appearing in the post-credits scene of Black Adam. However, only two months later, Gunn confirmed that his new Superman movie would focus on an earlier period of the character’s life, meaning Cavill would not return as the Man of Steel.
Cavill subsequently said he had been instructed by the studio to announce his return before Gunn and Safran took control of DC Studios. Gunn later acknowledged that the situation was “really unfortunate” and said it was unfair to Cavill.
Wonder Woman’s DC Future Remains Unclear
Gadot’s comments also touch on the uncertain future of Wonder Woman within the new DC Universe. She said Gunn and Safran initially discussed developing Wonder Woman 3 with her, but the project ultimately did not move forward. The actress has not been officially announced as part of the new DC Universe’s plans for the character.
Patty Jenkins has also previously rejected claims that she abandoned Wonder Woman 3 because she refused to accept studio notes. She said she
“never walked away”
and believed there was nothing she could do at the time to move the project forward.
Meanwhile, Adria Arjona’s casting in Man of Tomorrow has fueled speculation that she could play Wonder Woman, although DC Studios has not confirmed the character.
Gadot is currently promoting Prime Video’s thriller The Runner, in which she plays a mother whose son is kidnapped.
