Sony is reportedly in talks to acquire the upcoming Battlefield movie, which already has major Hollywood talent attached. According to Variety, Christopher McQuarrie is set to write, direct, and produce the film, while Michael B. Jordan is attached as a producer and could potentially star if the deal comes together.
The project previously sparked a reported bidding war involving several major studios. Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony, Universal and Netflix were all said to have expressed interest in bringing Electronic Arts’ military shooter franchise to the big screen.
Michael B. Jordan Could Lead the Battlefield Movie
Jordan’s potential involvement gives the project a major Hollywood name in front of and behind the camera. He would produce through his Outlier Society banner, with Elizabeth Raposo also producing alongside Jesse Stern of Electronic Arts, Carter Swan of Emerald Neon, and Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo.
McQuarrie’s involvement could be particularly significant for a military action adaptation. The filmmaker has worked extensively on large-scale action productions, including Top Gun: Maverick and multiple Mission: Impossible films.

However, the reported deal is not yet finalized, meaning Jordan’s potential starring role and Sony’s involvement could still change as negotiations continue.
The Battlefield adaptation is part of a growing effort to bring major military video game franchises to theaters. Another major shooter series, Call of Duty, is also reportedly receiving a film adaptation, with recent reports pointing toward a story connected to the Modern Warfare franchise.
For Battlefield, the combination of McQuarrie’s action filmmaking experience and Jordan’s involvement could give the adaptation a strong foundation if Sony ultimately secures the project.
