Like most anime series, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is adapted from the manga series Frieren by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. The first episode aired on 29 September 2023, with four episodes available online.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End follows the life of an elf and the former victorious hero party member who defeated the demon king. Before disbanding the group, the members came together for the last time to recollect the memories. The memories they made from their decade-long journey as the moment to bid each other farewell arrived.
They included magician Frieren, hero Himmel, priest Heiter, and warrior Eisen, but Frieren was not like them. She was an elf, and from our understanding regarding elves, the time works differently for them.
Her companion was passing one by one due to old age, where she was still in her youth. It was strange for her companion but not for Heiter. He foists a young human apprentice called Fern onto Frieren before passing.
Frieren decides to travel far north, to the resting place of souls, to bid the hero a fitting farewell and express her feelings. Fern shows her excitement about going on the journey with Frieren, pursuing her passion for magic while fulfilling her late master’s requests.
