Channel 5 brought a thriller series revolving around a lawyer and a dedicated mother, Laura, living a perfect-looking life. Her life gets messed up when she befriends a stranger named Emily.
The series got created by Jo Rogers and produced by Alison Jackson and Jessica Connell. The producers wanted a warm and beautiful visual world though the filming dates were in winter. Including interior and exterior locations would add creativity, according to the producers.
The series got released in the United Kingdom on 05 June 2023. The series wrapped within four episodes and took the viewers on a rollercoaster ride. It had more plot holes and clichés than thrills.
Some positive viewers appreciated Joyner’s and the little girl’s performance. However, some viewers addressed a flaw. Emily could have used the opportunity to destroy Laura’s reputation, but she did not do so. They watched the series only to uncover the truth and finally got disappointed.

For Her Sins Plot
Laura takes her two kids to a park, and one goes missing. Soon, she finds her missing kid with a stranger named Emily in the same park. It is where her life takes a turn.
Laura’s daughter, Eliza, disobeys everyone at home and in school. Every time, she gets calmed by Emily instead of her mother, Laura. Laura gets suspicious of Emily seeing her increasing friendliness.
Laura struggles to be a ‘good mother,’ while Emily creates misunderstandings between her and her husband ‘Rob.’ Meanwhile, Laura gets a horrifying letter at work. In the end, Laura’s real name turns out to be Catherine.
Emilie’s real name was Millie. Catherine and Millie were friends in their childhood. Once, they took Millie’s brother, Jamie, on a water boat ride, and Catherine pushed him off the boat in mischief. However, none knew it would turn into a sin.
Scared, Catherine and Millie only watched Jammie drowning as they failed to pull him out of the water. After the two friends reached the coast and an investigation occurred.
Though it was Catherine’s mistake, her mother ordered her to refuse to be at the crime scene when the incident occurred. Ultimately, Millie got blamed for everything and was sent to the juvenile care center. None believed her.
Catherine’s mom took her to a new city with a new identity. Millie, now Emily, got arrested again for kidnapping Eliza and trying to kill Laura’s husband, Rob. Laura and Emily could be best friends if Laura (Catherine) did not push Jamie that day.
Laura visits Emily in prison, where the latter says that she will get back someday for justice. So, Laura must stay alert. However, Emily is serving in jail as of now. Let us see whether another season, if it arrives, gives justice to Emily.
For Her Sins Filming Locations
Malta, Europe
Principal photography and filming began in Malta, Europe, in 2022. They chose Malta because the exteriors and weather are appropriate for cinematic locations. The island has pleasant coastal areas, natural light, rich cultural heritage, stunning visuals, vibrant landscapes, and historic sites.
Woodland and the children’s park in Malta got used for filming ‘For Her Sins.’ Malta has a pool of expertise and a sea. Thus, the underwater scenes got filmed with the under-water crew members under an expert’s guidance.
Kalanka Bay
Kalanka Bay is the uncrowded and seaside gem of Malta. It has marine life living in crystal clear water and picturesque views. The flashbacks and the finale episode got filmed at the beach and the magnificent lighthouse.
The II-Kalanka Lighthouse is near Il-Kalanka tal-Gidien Saltpans. The smooth rocks provide an ideal place for watching a sunrise/sunset and sunbathing.
Ta’ Qali National Park
Ta’ Qali National Park, which used to be an airplane runway, is now a park, a picnic spot, Malta Aviation Museum, and a zoo for kids. Some scenes from the For Her Sins Episode 01 got filmed in one of the largest green areas and wide open spaces at the center of Malta.
Athenaeum Spa
Athenaeum Spa at Corinthia Palace is a Mediterranean-inspired oasis that requires memberships. It provides treatments and spas to the kings and queens. Laura and Emily went to the same Spa in the second episode.
