Finding Your Feet follows a snobby middle-class woman who finds out her husband had an affair with her close friend on the day of her retirement. She is shocked to see that her near-perfect world has been turned upside down when she enters her “third age.”
Unable to deal with her situation, she goes into hiding with her distant bohemian sister, who stays on an underprivileged inner-city council block and is an enthusiastic member of a senior citizens dancing group located at London’s Sadler’s Wells.
Bif pulls Sandra to a community dancing class to cheer her up. There, the vibrant, rebellious, and lively group shows Sandra that it is never ever too late to start over.
Finding Your Feet Filming Location
Finding Your Feet began filming on October 31, 2016, in London and Rome after having been announced during the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. The movie finished its filming on December 16, 2016.
The lavish house that Sessions and Stauton had in Surrey was actually Bannits’ Houses, which is located on Chalfont Lane in Hertfordshire. We see the exterior of this Victorian Arts and Crafts home as caterers prepare for a banquet to honor Sessions’ knighthood in the movie.
There is a scene in which Her Ladyship Staunton comes to Sister Imrie’s estate, looking a little intimidated. This was Jesson House in SE17, which is an extension of the Rodney Estate, which is located east of Walworth Road.
Spall pays a visit to his wife, who is always a patient in a hospital due to Alzheimer’s. This location was also later used for interiors in the films Mortdecai, Legend, Brighton Rock, The Golden Compass, Red 2, and Quartet.
After a funeral service on Pancras Road in NW1, Imrie and Staunton have some ribs. Then, they return from a dancing lesson at the Round Chapel. This location is the E7 intersection of Powerscroft Road and Lower Clapton Road.
In one of the scenes, Lumley, Imrie, and Staunton make their way to a park bench. Here, Imrie suffers from pain in her back as she goes up with Staunton, Spall, and Hayman to form a quartet. From here, they take a right turn at the location called Holly Mount. This same location was also used in films like “For Them That Trespass,” “Strangler’s Web,” “The Killing of Sister George,” and “Hampstead.”
The scene where we see the dance class celebrating Christmas was filmed at Piccadilly Circus W1. When Staunton speaks to Spall about her desire to dance, they turn a corner and find Spall’s van, which is about to be towed. When Spall learns that his vehicle will be towed, he takes unusual action, and we suddenly find ourselves in the location EC1 instead of WC2.
The scene where the crowd exits the swimming area and makes its way up Hampstead Heath was shot at Lime Avenue. The scene where Spall’s canal boat is being followed by Staunton was shot at the Blomfield Road moorings entry in W2.
The Edwardian Home
Now let’s talk more about the Bannits’ House, which was shown in the movie where Sessions and Staunton lived. The classic Edwardian building known as Bannits’ House is situated in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire.
The large country estate serves as a backdrop for some of the scenes in this romantic comedy. But it wasn’t just about the performers; the real-life homeowners, their relatives, and their friends were all more than ready to appear in the movie as extras.
The Arts and Crafts-style Bannits’ House was constructed in 1908 and is wide and open, with five reception rooms, seven bedrooms, a study, and six bathrooms—almost one for each bedroom.
The tennis court, gorgeously groomed gardens, the 38-foot orangery, and the attached two-bedroom cottage are among the home’s more outstanding features.
The orangery connects all of the rooms in the house. Large paneled drawing room, marble-floored dining room, and solid wood flooring throughout the remainder of the ground floor are hallmarks of the interior decor.
The triple garage has plenty of space for vehicles outside the main house. The stunning, exclusive gardens, which span 1.25 acres, have mature trees, floral plants, borders, shrubs, and a wide terrace made of York stone that covers the entire length of the property.
