Final Fantasy XIV is set to become the largest game available on the Nintendo Switch 2, with the Nintendo eShop listing revealing that players will need 117.2 GB of free storage to install the MMORPG. The title launches on August 4, making it one of the console’s biggest releases—and its biggest download.
The game’s substantial file size means it will occupy nearly half of the Nintendo Switch 2’s 256 GB internal storage. Players planning to install the game may need to remove existing titles or expand their storage using a compatible microSD Express card.
The large installation requirement comes from the amount of content included at launch. The Switch 2 edition ships with the base game and five major expansions: Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail. This allows players to access the complete experience without downloading each expansion separately.
Square Enix is also developing a sixth expansion, Evercold, which is expected to increase the game’s storage requirements even further after release.
With its 117.2 GB download, Final Fantasy XIV overtakes Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which previously held the record at 91.8 GB on Nintendo Switch 2. The new release is also significantly larger than its PlayStation 5 counterpart, while remaining closer in size to the PC version.
The publisher already dominates the console’s largest-download rankings, with the Kingdom Hearts Collection also requiring roughly 131 GB of storage across its included titles.
