Nintendo has released the Mario Tennis Fever version 1.1.0 update, introducing one of the game’s largest post-launch content drops for Nintendo Switch 2. The free update brings a brand-new Galaxy Court inspired by Super Mario Galaxy, the powerful Black Hole Racket, expanded multiplayer options through GameShare and GameChat, along with dozens of gameplay refinements and character balance adjustments.
The update is available now and significantly expands both the casual and competitive experience. According to the official patch notes, version 1.1.0 introduces fresh gameplay mechanics while refining nearly every aspect of online and offline play.
Galaxy Court and Black Hole Racket headline the new content
The biggest addition in version 1.1.0 is Galaxy Court, a brand-new arena themed after Super Mario Galaxy. Unlike traditional courts, the new location features high-bouncing tennis balls and different layouts depending on whether players are competing in Free Play, Ranked Match, or Special Match.
Nintendo has also introduced a dedicated Galaxy Court Match mode, which transforms the arena into a spherical planet. During matches, one of three different Prankster Comets can appear, dynamically changing gameplay and forcing players to adjust their strategy throughout each match.
Another major addition is the Black Hole Racket, a new Fever Racket that introduces an entirely new hazard to the court. When a player’s Fever Shot lands, it creates a growing black hole that pulls nearby opponents toward its center. Players caught too close gradually lose HP, and anyone whose health reaches zero is swallowed by the black hole entirely. Nintendo notes that while the black hole affects players, it does not influence the movement of tennis balls, keeping rallies fair while adding a fresh tactical layer.
The update also expands the roster by adding five new Luma color variants as playable characters. In addition, players can unlock Mario’s classic outfit after collecting five medals, giving longtime fans another nostalgic cosmetic reward.

GameShare support and competitive balance improvements
Nintendo has also expanded multiplayer functionality by adding support for GameShare and Play via GameChat. These features allow friends to join matches through GameChat even if they do not own a copy of the game. Players can enjoy both traditional button controls and motion-based swing controls, as well as participate in Mix It Up party games. As expected, using GameChat requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Competitive balance has also received significant attention. Nearly every major character has been adjusted to improve overall fairness and roster diversity. Characters such as Diddy Kong, Dry Bones, Pauline, Bowser Jr., and Baby Peach received offensive or movement buffs, while weaker Star Shot issues affecting Yoshi, Nabbit, Toad, and Diddy Kong have been fixed.
Meanwhile, powerful characters including Rosalina, Donkey Kong, and Blooper received targeted nerfs that reduce movement responsiveness or shot accuracy, helping balance online ranked matches.

Several Fever Rackets have also been reworked. The Mini Mushroom Racket, Ice Flower Racket, Metal Racket, Amp Racket, Star Racket, and ? Block Racket all feature updated mechanics, with Nintendo adjusting effect durations, movement penalties, and special interactions to create more strategic gameplay.
Beyond gameplay balance, version 1.1.0 introduces several quality-of-life improvements. Players can now choose Academy Court variants on Grass, Hard, and Clay surfaces, select Random during racket selection for greater match variety, customize flat-shot button inputs, and enjoy improved matchmaking in Ranked Mode. Nintendo also adjusted Star Shot detection to make executing advanced shots more consistent.
With a mix of substantial new content, expanded multiplayer features, and extensive gameplay tuning, the Mario Tennis Fever 1.1.0 update represents the game’s biggest evolution since launch, giving both competitive players and casual fans plenty of new reasons to return to the court.
