Bandai Namco Entertainment America has revealed a wealth of new details about GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT during its panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, giving fans a deeper look at the upcoming action game and its place within the broader Gundam franchise. Scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the title is being developed by Bandai Namco Studios Inc. and promises a fast-paced, high-mobility combat experience set in an entirely new Gundam timeline.
The presentation’s biggest reveal was the introduction of the RG Project, a new initiative that directly connects GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT with the upcoming anime Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO. Rather than telling separate stories, both projects share the same universe while exploring different perspectives within that setting. The shared world was created by director Kenji Kamiyama and science fiction author Toh Enjoe, marking a new storytelling approach for the Gundam series that spans multiple forms of media.
RG Project connects the game and anime through a shared timeline
According to Bandai Namco, GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT takes place after the events of Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO, allowing players to experience an original story as a Gundam pilot within the same universe established by the anime.
The newly revealed setting begins when an Autonomous Interstellar Object from another galaxy grants humanity three revolutionary technologies: Gravity Control, FTL Communication, and Cognitive Materialization. These discoveries usher in an era of unprecedented prosperity, enabling humanity to spread across the solar system.
That progress comes to a sudden halt when the mysterious object transforms into an aggressive, self-replicating ecosystem known as the Apocalypse. Humanity fights the threat in Earth’s orbit for three months before abandoning the planet entirely, resetting its calendar to A.A. 1 (After Apocalypse). By A.A. 45, an entire generation has grown up knowing only life on the Moon and space colonies. The story then follows Ray Azumi, a young boy who awakens on the lunar surface, setting the stage for the events of the anime.
Gundam Helix, Gunpla, and card game collaborations revealed
Bandai Namco also provided a closer look at Gundam Helix, the signature mobile suit piloted by ace pilot RE-X in GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT. Designed with an emphasis on realism, the mobile suit is intended to resemble a practical military weapon while incorporating visual elements inspired by Gundam ZERO from RG XARX-ZERO, particularly in its waist and spinal structure.
In the game, players will pilot Gundam Helix across expansive battlefields, battling swarms of enemies, enormous bosses, and increasingly difficult encounters using high-speed, highly mobile combat mechanics.
The publisher also announced several cross-media tie-ins. Fans can look forward to the HG 1/144 GUNDAM HELIX Gunpla model kit at retail, while the game’s Collector’s Edition will include the exclusive HG 1/144 ARK-10 GUNDAM HELIX (EARTH BLUE ver.). Additionally, GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT will expand into the Gundam Card Game, beginning with a promotional card featuring the game’s key art before appearing in future releases.
With its interconnected narrative, original universe, and extensive merchandise support, GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT is positioning itself as a cornerstone of Bandai Namco’s next-generation Gundam initiative ahead of its 2027 launch.
