Final Fantasy Resonance has sold an estimated 400,000 copies and generated approximately $20 million in revenue in less than five days, according to market intelligence firm Alinea Analytics. Released on October 22, 2026, the new role-playing game brings classic turn-based combat back to the forefront of the franchise while introducing its HD-2D visual style.
The early figures suggest a promising start for the Square Enix release. However, the estimates cover PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox. Square Enix has not officially confirmed the reported sales figures.
Final Fantasy Resonance Generates $20 Million Across Platforms
According to Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott, PlayStation 5 accounts for 48.8% of the game’s estimated sales, while Steam represents 48.6%. Xbox accounts for the remaining 2.6%, making it the smallest contributor among the three platforms included in the analysis.
The revenue distribution differs slightly. PlayStation generates an estimated 55.3% of the reported $20 million, compared with 41.6% from Steam and 3.1% from Xbox. These figures make PlayStation the leading revenue platform, even though Steam accounts for almost the same share of copies sold.
The game’s reception has also been encouraging. Final Fantasy Resonance reportedly holds a 97% positive user review score on Steam, including a 95% positive rating among Chinese-language reviews. Its user ratings on PlayStation and Xbox stand at 4.8 out of 5, according to Alinea Analytics.

The game’s free demo appears to have played an important role in attracting buyers. Alinea Analytics estimates that more than 650,000 players tried the demo on PlayStation and Steam. Approximately one-quarter of those players reportedly purchased the full game, while around 45% of the game’s players had tried the demo beforehand.
Square Enix released the demo on September 3, allowing players to experience the opening section of the adventure before purchasing the full game. On Steam, approximately 100,000 players reportedly downloaded the demo for the first time after the main game’s launch, suggesting that interest continued beyond the initial release window.
Final Fantasy Resonance reimagines the opening story arc of the 2015 mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius in Square Enix’s HD-2D visual style, which combines pixel-art characters with detailed three-dimensional environments.
Its strategic turn-based battles, job system, airships, chocobos, and familiar franchise elements give the game a strong connection to the series’ classic identity. This approach differs from the more action-oriented combat featured in recent mainline releases and the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy.
The game’s early sales and positive reviews could indicate continued demand for traditional turn-based Japanese role-playing games. However, it remains too early to determine whether this performance will influence Square Enix’s future mainline Final Fantasy releases. For now, Final Fantasy Resonance has made a promising start, with its first few days suggesting that the franchise’s classic combat style still has a substantial audience.
