Legendary Formula One team owner and motorsport icon Eddie Jordan passed away peacefully with his family by his side in the early hours of March 20, 2025.
He had been battling an aggressive form of prostate and bladder cancer for the past year.
Eddie’s family confirmed the news in a heartfelt statement, expressing their devastation and sharing that he spent his final moments surrounded by loved ones.
Eddie’s Health Struggles and Final Public Appearance
Eddie Jordan first revealed his cancer diagnosis publicly in December 2024, sharing that he had been quietly battling both bladder and prostate cancer for several months.
Despite undergoing chemotherapy treatments, Eddie tried to remain active and was passionate about motorsport until the very end.

One of his last public appearances was in February 2025 on talkSPORT radio, where he participated in a segment discussing his attempted takeover of the London Irish rugby team.
During the conversation, Eddie became emotional, apologizing to listeners and admitting that chemotherapy had taken its toll. He said:
“I’ve just come out of getting chemotherapy and I’m not 100 percent together here, guys. I’m just not myself at this moment in time. I’m a little all over the place, so please forgive me.”
His honesty and vulnerability in that moment struck a chord with fans who admired his resilience and bravery during such a difficult battle.
Eddie Jordan’s Motorsport Legacy
Eddie Jordan’s impact on motorsport — particularly Formula One — is profound. Though he never raced in F1 himself, Eddie was deeply involved in motorsport as a driver in Formula 2, Formula 3, and Formula Atlantic, and even competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1981.
However, it was as a team owner and businessman that Eddie truly made his mark. In 1991, he founded Jordan Grand Prix, a team that quickly became known for its bold colors, charismatic leadership, and giving several future legends their start — most notably Michael Schumacher, who made his F1 debut with Jordan at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix.
Jordan Grand Prix competed in Formula One until 2005, earning respect and admiration for punching above their weight in a highly competitive sport.

Their most famous achievement came in 1998 at the Belgian Grand Prix, where drivers Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher secured a remarkable 1-2 finish, marking the team’s most successful day on track.

Former BBC F1 presenter Jake Humphrey, who worked closely with Eddie and David Coulthard during their television coverage, posted a heartfelt tribute:
“Utterly devastated. EJ has left us. Formula One won’t see the likes of Eddie ever again — where a guy with a love for racing can hustle his way into the sport and end up winning races.
More important than race wins though, we won hearts. I will never forget how his face would light up.”
