National Geographic’s new series following the adventures of Christian Cooper as he travels around the world and indulges in birdwatching just got released recently. Christian Cooper has spent a significant portion of his life being a birder.
He has now, with the help of the National Geographic channel, taken to our television screens to educate his audience and fascinate them with his knowledge of a wide variety of birds on the show, Extraordinary Birder.
For those who may not be aware, a birder is any person who engages in birdwatching either by themselves or with the help of special equipment and either for leisure or for study purposes. The sixty-year-old Christian Cooper has enough experience to be on the show and is all set to introduce us to both rare and common bird types.
Animal lover Cooper has been in the news previously when he was attacked by a woman who seemed to have no control over her dog, and when Cooper pointed this out to her, the woman was already to call the police and play the victim just because he is black. Despite this very public incident, Cooper seems to be enjoying his time in front of the camera crew of the Nat Geo channel, as we see him express his childlike enthusiasm while talking about birds.
The show is very educational and informative and follows a pretty standard travel series format, as we see bird lover Cooper travel all over the United States to bring us information about a variety of birds. The show, hosted by Christian Cooper, has an overall feel-good vibe with the former’s positive energy and excitement, which is like a breath of fresh air after a really long time.
The show is set to have a total of six episodes, with Cooper traveling miles and miles back and forth to bring magical stories from the world of birds. If you are curious to find out all of the places where Christian Cooper and the National Geographic crew flew to film the show, then do continue reading till the end.
Extraordinary Birder’s Filming Locations
Throughout the six episodes of the show, we will find birder Christian Cooper move to six new locations to bring new meaningful tales and information about different birds.
Palm Springs, California
Palm Springs happens to be a city located in the deserts of California, very much in connection with nature and wildlife. The place itself is known for being a quiet, peaceful place full of resorts and spas.
At this location spot, we find Cooper comes across beautiful great blue herons, ravens who are strangely smarter than we imagined, hummingbirds that can be found only in specific areas, and some cunning birds who have adapted in a way that lets them swoop to the land to get their prey in their grasp. These are also called working raptor birds.
Washington DC
In another episode, we fly all the way to Washington, DC, to meet with some members of the Eagle family. He is also seen helping the grassland birds, which are small-sized birds that nest in grasses and are usually found in open lands.
In the nation’s capital city, he lets us know the birds common to the area, all the while giving insight into how they nest and exploring something that the experts call the ‘nest island.’
New York City
In New York, we find him near the George Washington Bridge, where he seems very friendly and local to the peregrine falcons, both mother bird and her chicks. He shows us their nests and then moves on to giving some pigeons a footbath.
He seems so comfortable doing these tasks, which just goes on to increase his credibility. In this episode, he also releases a kestrel bird, known for being streetsmart, allowing the bird a taste of freedom right in its hometown, where it belongs.
Puerto Rico
The episode where Cooper travels all the way to Puerto Rico is special as we see him enter and lead the way into the El Yunque, the State’s only national tropical rainforest, to meet with the Puerto Ricans in order to celebrate their love for one bird, parrots. He covers a tough way, kayaking through different caves, hiking, crossing waterfalls, and trekking just to have a look at the colorful birds of the place.
Hawaii
In Hawaii, he meets giant hawks that just look royal, along with honeycreepers that he pulls out of a volcanic region. Here too, we will get to a wide variety of majestic birds.
