Everyone Else Burns Plot Explained
Patriarch Lewis is the Patriarch of the Lewis family. He and his family is fully devoted to the puritanical Christian sect. Patriarch desires to reach the top ranks in the church community. His wife Fiona has difficulty managing household affairs and her shifting religious perspectives. The couple has two children- Aaron and Rachel. Aaron is a school-going kid who has to deal with bullies every day.
Rachel is a 17-year teen with fluctuating emotions who desires to study at university but faces resistance from her parents. Fiona plans to commence a business. She seeks assistance for the same from her generous neighbor Melissa.
Rachel doesn’t share a cordial relationship with her parents as she finds them restricting her freedom. Aaron deals with mood swings frequently. When he’s furious, he draws scary and aggressive images of his father.
So both the kids aren’t too happy with their parents. The family is quite religious and devotes their heart to following Christianity strictly. The best part about the series is the way it shows the clash of traditional devotion towards religion bs the modern ideals of today’s generation, showcased by Rachel and Aaron perfectly.
Simon Bird, the veteran comedian who plays the role of Patriarch, echoes a similar sentiment. He says that the sitcom shouldn’t be limited to religious prospects. The show seeks to explore the dynamics of a changing world. David worries about his kids losing their devotion to Christianity. Well, this situation of David can be felt by many parents. The sentiments and ideals of today’s generation stand differently from the elderly.
David’s desperation to become the elder of the Church is repeatedly thwarted by his neighbor Andrew. David knows well that it is hard to reach the position since there are many vying for it. In episode 2, David ends up finding an ancient religious book. He is glad to find it, but considering his dominant nature, he plans to use the things mentioned in the book to moral police his family.
Episode 3 focuses on love and sex. David’s wife is not happy with him. David wants to try something new and make his sexual life interesting. Rachel preaches Christianity all around the town. But when she meets a stunning guy, she is thrown into doubt.
She starts to question her entire outlook and feels confused. In episode 5, David plans to take Aaron on an interesting trip. Aaron isn’t much interested, but David takes him on a caravan trip, which Aaron later describes as “rubbish.”
