Even after nine years of supernatural horror called The Conjuring Universe, it has yet to see an end. The sensation first began in 2013 with the release of The Conjuring. Horrifying and chilling, the Conjuring Universe has managed to gain billions of dollars. Distributed under Warner Brothers Pictures, the eight movies have created a separate fandom worldwide. The Conjuring Universe is initially based on real-life Ed and Lorraine Warren and their chilling experiences of the supernatural. As the moves have gone on, several fictional aspects have been added to them for extra zest.
The reel life Warrens have been the major characters across almost all of the movies. From Annabelle to The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, the two demonologists have been a prominent part of The Conjuring Universe. Vera Farmiga, who plays Lorraine Warren, and Patrick Wilson, who plays Ed Warren, have made The Conjuring Universe the second highest-grossing horror movie series.

The Conjuring
The first movie released in The Conjuring Universe was The Conjuring in June 2013. Created by Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes, it was directed by James Wan. The inaugural film tells the tale of a farmhouse that the Perron family has just moved into. Paranormal events in the house make the Perron family contact the Warrens for an exorcism to protect their five daughters from the control of Bathsheba, who haunts the house.
Annabelle
Released in October 2014, the second movie in The Conjuring Universe is a spinoff based on a story mentioned in the first movie. The infamous Annabelle doll takes the stage in this film. Directed by John R. Leonetti and written by Gary Dauberman, the movie shows a heavily pregnant Mia Form and her old porcelain doll, gifted to her by her husband, not knowing that the doll holds a dark secret. Soon, hauntings begin in the household, and death looms over Mia.
The Conjuring 2
The second installment of The Conjuring series, released in June 2016, was also directed by James Wan. In the movie, the Hodgson family is the one being targeted by a malicious and evil spirit that even terrorizes Lorraine.
Annabelle Creation
The second installment of the Annabelle series is the fourth movie to be released that is part of The Conjuring Universe. It came out in August 2017 and was directed by David F. Sandberg and written by Gary Dauberman. The movie goes into detail about the past of the doll Annabelle and the human that once owned it. The Mullins grieve the loss of their daughter and years later open their house to a Sister and several young girls. One of the girls, Janice, unknowingly unleashes the demon that lurks in the dead girl’s closet, ultimately causing the events of Annabelle 1.
The Nun
Directed by Corin Hardy and written by Garry Dauberman and James Wan, the 2018 movie brings to light one of the most powerful demons of The Conjuring Universe, Valak. The Nun comes full circle with the previous Conjuring movies.
The Curse of La Llorona
The Curse of La Llorona came out in 2019 and is based on Latin American folklore. The screenplay was written by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis and was directed by Michael Chaves. When Patricia Alvarez’s two boys sense occurrences of a demon around them, Patricia takes charge to protect her sons in any way possible.
Annabelle Comes Home
The Mckenna Grace (known for Gifted and Captain Marvel) starrer, Annabelle Comes home, was released in 2019 and was directed by Gary Dauberman. When Ed and Lorraine are out, their daughter Judy’s babysitter accidentally lets Annabelle’s case unlock, causing Annabelle and several other entities to attack young Judy.
The Conjuring The Devil Made Me Do It
Devil Made Me Do It is currently the last released movie of The Conjuring Universe, while several other projects are in work. The Michael Chaves directed film was released in 2021. Ed and Lorraine are summoned to exorcise a young David. Arne, David’s sister’s boyfriend, in a plea to rescue David, takes on the demon in his body. Derived from real events, the movie is rated R for its gore and violence.
