Ilya Kirev and Cairam Kirev came face to face on the battlefield after so many years since the day when Ilya pushed Cairam off the crevice in hopes of ending his life. Things are different now as Cairam has been chosen by the fell flame and is a great mage and so their battle would also have a different ending.
Evangeline’s Sword Chapter 40 showed more of the backstory of the Kirev family and gave the fans a clear insight into the whole Kirev family drama. Cairam hoped to get rid of the curse of the fell flame with Eve by his side but in this chapter, he is left with no choice but to rely on this devilish power and defeat his brother.

Evangeline’s Sword Chapter 40: Recap
Ilya Kireva and Mikhael Delos(Cairam Kirev) came face to face after many years during the battle between Yaelan and Tairen. Ilya gets angry and Cairam for being alive as he just got close to restoring their house and now it will all be in vain. The focus then shifts to the backstory of these two brothers and how they drifted apart. Ilya and Cairam ran away from the Kirev household after they got attacked by the Paladins. Ilya’s mother asked him to find the blessing of the fell vyrm and become the mage of Varachius and so Ilya decides to do everything he can to achieve that dream.
Ilya runs towards the fell flame but the ground beneath him starts to crumble and he falls down. Cairam rushes to help him and catches his hand. After some struggle, Cairam managed to pull Ilya upwards and he hugs him as he thought he’d lose his precious brother. Ilya starts crying and tells Cairam that he was supposed to be the mage of the fell flame, that people called him the chosen one of the Mount Seratsk, the blessed child of Varachius who shall protect the nation from the zealots of the holy kingdom but everything vanished when Cairam came along.
Ilya holds Cairam and shouts at him saying that someone like him was chosen as the fell flame and that he should be the one getting that title. Cairam asks Ilya to stop but he doesn’t he continues by saying that no matter what people call him, he would never acknowledge Cairam and then he pushes Cairam off the edge. Cairam falls down the pit while looking at his brother. Ilya picks up the sword and announces that from this moment forward, he will be Cairam Kirev.
Back at the battlefield, Ilya pushes Cairam back with his sword and walks towards him to deliver the finishing blow. Cairam holds Ilya’s sword and asks him to run away as the Queen of Yaelan wants Ilya dead and that she would go to any lengths to make sure that happens. Instead of feeling grateful, Ilya tells Cairam to shut up and goes on to tell him that he doesn’t care about the war, he just wants to be recognized so that he can restore the house as a true kirev. Cairam understands now that his brother only wants him dead so that he will achieve true fame as the only Kirev and so Cairam stands up and tells Ilya that he doesn’t stand a chance against him.
Ilya calls it a bluff as Cairam is unarmed but suddenly his hands stop moving. Cairam tells Ilya that no one would remember him as Cairam Kirev as the real Cairam Kirev died many years back due to being pushed down a crevice by his brother. Ilya looks at Cairam’s eyes and realizes that his father was right and that Cairam is the one chosen by the fell flame. The battle heats up as Ilya orders all his soldiers to attack Cairam at once.
