Singer Eru is facing one year in prison for driving under the influence (DUI). According to reports on March 7, the Seoul Western District Court upheld the prosecution’s request and sentenced Eru to one year in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 USD 75.23D). This decision comes after his previous trial where he received a sentence of six months in prison, probation, and a fine of 100,000 won.
However, the court deemed this punishment too lenient and is reconsidering its decision.
Eru’s lawyer stated,
“He confessed to the crime as a first-time offender, and since his debut as a singer, he’s been active as a leading K-pop singer in Indonesia, contributing to enhancing national prestige.
His mother is also suffering from dementia, and she’s very dependent on her son, the defendant.”
In September 2022, Eru was apprehended for driving under the influence in Youngsan-gu, Seoul. He was subsequently indicted without detention for allegedly colluding with a 34-year-old female professional golfer, Park, to deceive the police into believing she was the one driving.
Later that year, in December, the singer faced another controversy when he permitted a colleague to drive his car while intoxicated.
In response, Eru issued a personal apology and announced his hiatus from the industry. The sentencing date for Eru’s case is scheduled for March 26 at Korean Standard Time (KST).
