Judy Tenuta, the stand-up comic, AKA “the love goddess,” sadly passed away recently at the age of 72 of ovarian cancer in Los Angeles. She was one of the comedians who brought live comedy to new levels and helped it become popular in clubs like the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, Caroline’s in New York City, and the Laff Stop in Houston.
She was also well known for her sarcastic humor, raspy voice, and profanity-filled jokes. She also co-starred in many movies like- “Sister Mary” alongside Bruce Vilanch and “Gibsonburg,” “Material Girls” etc. She also appeared in many television shows, too, like “General Hospital,” “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide,” “Cory in the House,” etc.

Judy Tenuta’s ex-partner Emo Philip pays tribute on Twitter:
Judy Tenuta was married to Emo Philips, also a popular comedian and entertainer, in 1998 but kept it private. However, the couple got separated soon, the reason not being clear as they both kept things very secretive. Emo Philips paid his tribute to the late comedian Judy Tenuta by sharing his favorite memory of her after the news of her demise. The duo was well known for co-hosting the Night Fright.
Emo posted on 6th October, Emo took to Twitter, expressing his feelings about losing his co-star and past romantic partner, Judy. He shared his favorite story of hers from the past and tweeted, captioning it “his favorite Judy Tenuta story.” Judy and Emo Philip were well known for co-hosting the popular television show Night Fright in the 90s, and their on-screen chemistry is still cherished by fans.
One of Emo’s interviews with the Los Angeles Times in 1987 states that they were romantically involved in the past. In the article, Emo said praising Judy that she is so much fun to work with and is even one of the funniest comedians he has ever met, except for maybe Richard Simmons.

Judy’s publicist revealed her age to the press while sharing the news of her passing. As apparently, Judy never told her real age. She claimed her birthdate as 7th November 1965, but she was actually born in 1947. She was very old school, so she never revealed her actual age, but after her passing away, we can share her real age, said her publicist.

The two-time Grammy Award Nominee passed away at the age of 72 in her home in Los Angeles. She also played little parts in Al Yankovic’s comedy sketches and music videos. Following the news of her demise, Yankovic tweeted that Earth has truly lost a goddess! Apart from being an entertainer, Judy was also a vocal supporter of LGBT rights and appeared as the grand marshal at Gay Pride events.
She also performed at gay bars and clubs all across the country. She received the ministerial ordination that she could perform same-sex unions. Judy was well known for her outrageous and over-the-top personality and costumes. Some of her famous stage names were “The Petite Flower,” “Queen of Candy Pants,” and “Princess of Panty Shields,” etc.
She was the first female stand-up comedian who won the American Comedy Awards’ best female comedian honor. She also performed on stage in the “Vagina Monologues” and “Menopause the musical,” and her stand-up specials for Showtime, HBO, and Lifetime in Los Angeles and Chicago. One of the HBO specials in which she appeared was- Women of the Night in 1987, also featuring star comedians like- Ellen DeGeneres, Paula Poundstone, and Rita Rudner.
