Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, addressed concerns regarding antisemitic content on his social media platform, X, during an interview at a conference near Auschwitz in Poland.
Musk, previously criticized for amplifying an antisemitic conspiracy theory on X, acknowledged the platform’s antisemitic issue but claimed it has less compared to other major platforms, citing external audits.
Despite facing backlash and advertiser exodus over the November incident, Musk defended X’s commitment to free speech, emphasizing the challenge of achieving zero antisemitic content with a user base of 600 million.
He encouraged more world leaders to join the platform, asserting that his personal posts occasionally involve mistakes but contribute to the pursuit of truth.
While expressing support for the Israeli people and describing himself as “aspirationally Jewish,” Musk admitted being somewhat “naive” about the recent surge in antisemitism in the United States. The billionaire’s visit to Auschwitz, accompanied by his young son, marked part of the event addressing concerns raised about antisemitic content on X.
Despite facing criticism for his handling of antisemitic incidents and conspiracy theories on the platform, Musk reiterated the importance of free speech on X.
He urged leaders to engage on social media without extensive filtering through staff, acknowledging that occasional mistakes are inevitable. Musk’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts to balance free expression and curb harmful content on digital platforms, particularly in the context of rising antisemitism.
