EA Sports FC 27 has sold an estimated 705,000 physical copies on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, generating approximately $64.9 million in physical revenue, according to Alinea Analytics’ report, Physical Game Revenues on PlayStation.
Despite the strong physical sales figure, boxed copies represent only 8.9% of the game’s estimated $727.9 million in total PlayStation revenue. The figures highlight the growing gap between sports games’ overall commercial performance and their reliance on physical releases, as more players purchase digital editions.
FC 27’S PHYSICAL SALES STAND OUT DESPITE DIGITAL DOMINANCE
Alinea Analytics’ estimates place FC 27 among the leading new PlayStation releases of 2026 by physical revenue. Its $64.9 million from physical copies puts it second on the report’s physical revenue ranking, behind Resident Evil Requiem, which generated more than $92.3 million from an estimated 1.3 million physical PlayStation copies.
However, FC 27’s physical revenue accounts for a much smaller share of its total earnings. Resident Evil Requiem earns around 30.2% of its PlayStation revenue from physical sales, compared with FC 27’s 8.9%.
The difference reflects how players buy and engage with sports games. Digital editions can provide early access or additional content for modes built around online competition and team-building, encouraging players to choose downloads over boxed copies.

ULTIMATE TEAM INCENTIVES HELP DRIVE DIGITAL PURCHASES
The report by Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics points to Ultimate Team incentives as a major reason sports titles have such low physical sales shares. Digital editions often bundle FC Points, player items, premium passes, and other rewards that help players build their squads sooner.
EA’s official FC 27 editions and release dates guide confirms that its higher-priced editions include early access and additional content, including rewards for Football Ultimate Team. These benefits give players a practical reason to choose digital versions instead of waiting for a physical copy.
The same pattern appears across other sports releases. Alinea Analytics estimates that NBA 2K27 generated $213.4 million in PlayStation revenue, but only 4.6% came from physical sales. Madden NFL 27 and MLB The Show 26 also recorded physical revenue shares below 8%.
FC 27’s figures show that physical sales can still generate tens of millions of dollars even when digital purchases dominate. Its estimated $64.9 million in physical revenue makes it a major contributor to the market for boxed PlayStation games.
Alinea Analytics estimates that new physical PlayStation releases in 2026 have generated more than $655 million in premium revenue, although this represents less than 20% of revenue from new premium games. The report also highlights a commercial challenge for physical releases, as publishers must account for manufacturing, distribution, and retailer costs.
For FC 27, the contrast is particularly striking: its estimated $727.9 million in total PlayStation revenue demonstrates the franchise’s commercial reach, while its 8.9% physical share illustrates how heavily that success leans on digital sales.
