Drew Scott expresses his admiration for his wife and soon-to-be mother of two.
Shortly after revealing the anticipation of their second child, Drew Scott, the HGTV star, spoke on the red carpet at the Environmental Media Awards Gala in Los Angeles. He expressed the couple’s joy at the prospect of their expanding family.
“We are super excited. Linda is a rockstar mom already,” Scott, 45, says. He’s also excited to see their son Parker, 20, months “be a big bro.” “I love seeing Linda as a mom, and the idea of having a couple of kiddos running around is pretty cool. I have siblings, and so for Parker to have a sibling too is pretty cool.”
Regarding the toddler’s awareness of the impending changes, Scott notes, “I think he knows something. If we say, ‘Where’s the baby?’ he puts his hand on his belly. So he knows something, but I don’t know if he quite gets it yet.”
Additionally, the couple has chosen to keep the baby’s gender a surprise until Phan gives birth, following the same approach they took with their first child, Parker. Drew Scott shared, “We don’t know if it’s going to be a boy or girl, so it’s going to be a surprise.”
Asked about modeling positive environmentalism for his son, Scott mentions that the broader family contributes with a shared “environmentally focused” approach.
“I think it’s just little things. It’s great too because we have a lot of time with family, Jonathan [Scott], Zooey [Deschanel], and the kids,” Drew explains. His brother Jonathan co-parents Zooey Deschanel’s two children — 6-year-old son Charlie and 7-year-old daughter Elsie — alongside the actress, 43, and her ex-husband Jacob Pechenik.
“My parents are here. Linda’s mom, and then Linda’s sister lives in the neighborhood too with her kids. So whenever we’re doing stuff, we’re all very environmentally focused,” Drew adds, also sharing that the family doesn’t use single-use plastics and composts. Which has led to Drew’s little boy picking up some excellent habits, quite literally.
The couple announced their pregnancy in a sweet joint Instagram post earlier this month. “Round 2,” they wrote in the caption of the photo, capturing Parker touching Phan’s growing belly. “I hope Parker’s ready for a little company.”
The Property Brothers star previously discussed the parenting challenges in a candid Father’s Day interview with his brother Jonathan on their website.
“I was back in school finishing my Executive MBA and I had to fly out to Boston two months after Parker was born for two weeks,” Drew recalled. “The early stages of being born is a tough time to leave a parent solo.”
While Phan “was good at letting me know what she needed to tackle everything, after doing that it made me understand how easy it could be to just let Linda take the reins on everything Parker — I’m at work all day and she’s with him, so it’s easy for me to forget that I’m a parent here too and I have certain responsibilities.”
He continued, “The real, open dialogue between Linda and me is a huge part of me being a better dad because she’ll give me a slight reminder if I’m not doing something I promised to do. It’s not just about the baby, it’s also about your communication with your partner.”
